    Pros

    Cons

Business requirements change often, so need to be ready for change

  2. "Good place to work, but they are now closed in the US"

I worked at RM (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It was good while it lasted.

    Cons

Bad management decisions in HQ in the UK led to the closure of the US office.

I have been working at RM part-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Nice new office facilities
    Good team work ethics
    Customer base expanding again
Always looking for new ideas - supportive of staff working on new developments

    Cons

Poor Senior Management Team - promotion and opportunities are about who you know not what your potential is.
Too much work off-shored to India - there are some good staff in ESI but not enough. The UK have to clean up all the messes they create.
Salaries are not competitive enough to keep the good staff on.
Still a lot if uncertainty about the viability of the company, staff morale low in many teams.
What was once an excellent benefits package that made RM stand out is now mediocre and "in line with comparators" to quote SMT.
Very much still an "old boys club" - very few senior positions for women and even less for part-time workers.

    Advice to Management

Stop off-shoring everything - cheaper resource does not equal an improved service for customers and supposedly it is our customers that are meant to be at the heart of everything we do.
Get rid of the boys only culture which exists.

I worked at RM (More than a year)

    Pros

RM is a company that saw potential in me where others had not. It's not afraid to invest it its employees or its product.
The staff (in RM Results at least) are by an incredible asset; kind, hard working, knowledgable and approachable.

    Cons

There aren't many. RM Results at least is a company in transition, between both products and processes, but that level of change can be seen as both a positive and negative in the short term. (However, only positive in the long term.)

    Advice to Management

Keep up the solid steering, keep rewarding the staff for good work and don't be afraid to take a punt every now and again.

I have been working at RM full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You will get opportunities to excel and learn. Good team and work environment. WIll get onsite if one is lucky and stay for a longer duration in the company.
Will get a normal appraisal rating and hike if you keep an average standard in work.

    Cons

Company keen on cost cutting and seems like there is an objective to cut more costs every year for managers. Decisions are driven by a few and difficult to bring in changes easily. Even managers dont have any power over fund allocation to the project or bring facilities to the team members. No benefits like work from home, flexible timing etc.

    Advice to Management

    None.

I have been working at RM full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Outstanding colleagues to work with, across all areas of the business, who genuinely care about making a difference for the company, but also more importantly for customers.
Opportunities to progress do come up and with the right flexibility are achievable.
Generally open culture, direct managers are open about their view on changes and company direction.
Colleagues care about the success of the business and are willing to 'pitch in' to achieve results.

    Cons

Often convoluted internal structure, some things are the way the are because the always have been.
Lots of change in the last 3-4 years, mostly positive but unsettling never the less. A difficult marketplace has led to difficult decisions, but I'm sure this will be the same in all Education focused businesses.
At risk of losing our edge in terms of technology, investment in the correct areas would address this.

    Advice to Management

Focus on problems the market has, not just what we are set up to do.
Continue being open, communicate at the earliest possible moment, particularly when it comes to change.
    Focus on staff retention.

    Pros

-Great career progression - Management will work with you and set you goals and help you plan your career at RM

-Friendly colleagues- Always willing to help each other

-Training- Really good training delivered by industry specialists

-Management are friendly and easy to talk to. Always asking for feedback and will take the time to sit down with you to hear your views

    Cons

-Company has gone through a lot of change in the last few years. Moving the right direction which is good, but nobody really likes change.

-Loads of snacks are shared across the office

    Advice to Management

Carry on being open and honest with staff

I have been working at RM full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The best thing about RM is the people. It's seems cliché but its true, most of the people are RM really do care about the life chances of pupils and how our products and services can help. As a company RM generally does care about its employees and if you have the drive and determination to progress your career then they will find a path for you. I have really enjoyed my 4 years at RM and hopefully will enjoy quite a few more.

    Cons

As a smaller company now in a difficult market, there is a lot of change to handle and not all handled brilliantly. It's not perfect but I image a lot of other companies in the education market are having to deal with similar situations. Processes are also not ideal and can be long-winded but they are there for a reason.

    Advice to Management

Keep customers and employees at the heart of what RM does. It works and shouldn't change.
