I have been working at SSM Health full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Local managers are great, very caring, promote education of employees, good patient care. Most units are staffed with people who are willing to do the best for their patients and also be helpful to one another, although some are not so pleasant. It's good to be part of a larger system (we are a small hospital) because many policies and orders are shared across the system. It's good to have the back up of such a large company.

    Cons

Frequent changes in administration at both local and system levels. Each new person who comes in makes changes, some of which do not work in all of the facilities because of the different communities and sizes. Next person who comes along changes those changes. Also, difficult to get rid of with employees who cause trouble or are bullies to others.

    Advice to Management

Stop making changes just to be making changes. More communication before changes are made, get the opinions of your staff. Deal with lateral violence/bullying from nurses.

I worked at SSM Health full-time

    Pros

    Great people are working there

    Cons

Some areas of the day to day operations are not run very inefficient. Bad decisions...

    Advice to Management

Be more aware of people/ employee needs. When you I've 500% ,you get that back, plus more. They don't get that

I have been working at SSM Health full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company supports career and personal growth by offering tuition reimbursement. They also have several cohorts for both BSN and Master level programs. These programs are offered at significantly lower prices.

    Cons

Because SSM is a fairly large system it takes a long time for changes to be made. We struggle to compete with competitors for qualified staff.

    Advice to Management

Listen to those that are closest to the work. When the company struggles financially make cuts from those not directly providing care.

I have been working at SSM Health full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Much better than working for Tenent.
Will offer double bonus for nights/weekends/some particular day shifts.
For the most part, everyone is very nice and friendly since it is a smaller hospital.
    Weekend option available.

    Cons

Not getting paid enough according to the union grid and my experience.
Need that new hospital building BADLY!
    Rooms are way too small.

I have been working at SSM Health full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I really like the CNO Patti Kelly, when meeting with her she has a real concern for her nurses and then I am also a big fan of the progress SLUH has made and the more progression it will be making with the new hospital

    Cons

There is a tremendous turnover rate here and when I started I was working with an entirely different staff. The relationships you make are really just temporary and I wanted to go somewhere they have a better turnover rate and the staff stays in one place longer. I also have had a lot of push back with staff and only doing an ok job with what they are appointed and sometimes they just don't even do what is expected with their job. I wanted to go somewhere where there would be a place where I can be in charge of the total patient care. I was also a weekday night nurses and I would be working a weekend shift almost every week.

    Advice to Management

I wish there was more counseling with the staff even when they are doing good. I feel there is a disconnect between the night shift and the managers/directors. I also think there could be more incentive/discipline for when things are done incorrectly or even correctly.
