Equivalent to that of a call center

May 8, 2020 - Billing in Boston, MA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Hours of work are great, once 4:30 hits you can clock out and leave without worrying about taking work home with you.

      Cons

      - call center-esque with a script of what to say to customers - very individualistic with not much communication between coworkers - no commuter benefits - 10 days off a year but if another coworker wants that same day off it goes to whoever asked first (competitive) - very little direction from management - male dominated company - very low pay compared to other companies and location of work

      Pros

Great benefits, good work environment, friendly coworkers

      Cons

Not many opportunities for growth in management. Most of the Directors and Managers have been in their positions for years and seem quite comfortable in those positions.

Great C Level - Poor Middle Management

Mar 25, 2019 - MIS Analyst in Boston, MA
      Recommend
      CEO Approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Nice people for the most part, especially in the other departments. VPs are down to earth. C Level execs are very approachable. Shorter work week. Decent benefits.

      Cons

Middle management in MIS is not qualified - there is a lack of focus on formal education, i.e., your manager most likely does not have a C.S. degree. Focus is on promoting from within, so if you are an engineer, do not expect to encounter that proven methodology you picked up in college or your internship, or any software engineering position with any company you may have been employed by recently (within the last 10 years). The call themselves agile but do not practice agile development. Underwriters have more control than engineers...

      High volume

Nov 1, 2018 - Claims Adjuster in Boston, MA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Pay and benefits are good and they allow telecommuting full time which is terrific. Depending on who you work for, most managers do not micromanage and see you as a professional.

      Cons

Company operates by the bottom line. High claim volume, no customer service Center so incoming calls get bounced around which is not good customer service. Incoming calls are probably averaging over a thousand a day and probably much more. Policy and procedures constantly changing so much its hard to keep up. Performance evaluation is straight across the board regardless how much work you have so if you are one of the unlucky ones with a high work load you may not do as well in your review as those who have much less work. Work is not evenly distributed.
