I worked at Simply Self Storage part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Management was helpful and accommodating. Great training.

    Cons

Depending on the town, break-ins were pretty typical at almost every branch. Other than that, good position for a second job.

    Advice to Management

More backup coverage needed for those who can't make it in or take vacation.

    Cons

District managers don't care, they don't care about the customers, this company is all about the all Mighty Dollar. Every employee is replaceable and they treat you as such.

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees and tenants better

I worked at Simply Self Storage full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It was actually a fun job at first. Our team worked well together and it was enjoyable. Training was great and extensive, very detailed.

    Cons

Once additional sites came on board, you were to just go with the flow, no additional income even when you doubled your workload, properties at takeovers were a wreak so hours were long. HR, VP and president was a joke, so long as you kept your mouth shut you were fine but when you wanted to discuss additional pay for additional permanent sites they turned your back on you. Same with trainers that had been there for years, more then qualified to do DM position, by passed. They left. I once had the owner ask a group of us some questions, when it got to me, he couldn't even remember my name that day but sure did the night before at the Christmas party. Horrible company, horrible people.

    Advice to Management

Equal pay for employees both male and female. Stop wasting money on elaborate parties and actually give back to the ones that deserve it. Everyone would prefer to do by district then be dragged all over the country and then hear how HR worked to make everything everyday happen, she's a joke and two faced. Ahhh, unless your a favorite.......

I have been working at Simply Self Storage (More than 5 years)

    Pros

You can always use the experience on your resume when applying for another job. Trust me you will leave this company.

    Cons

Terrible pay ( the work and pay don't match), when asked to travel and work at different sites throughout Illinois one would think you would make at least 30K. Terrible work culture, bad internal communication, The facilities aren't kept up well ( the maintenance issues are a nightmare). Obviously, if the facility isn't maintained it creates angry customers, which cause havoc for the APM's. Under staffed ( due to the terrible pay and work culture people quit often) . It's hard to keep staff when your company doesn't run well. Simply put you Simply SUCK!!

    Advice to Management

Improve your entry level pay scale ( the work and pay don't match), when asked to travel and work at different sites throughout Illinois one would think you would make at least 30K. Fix your work culture. You have bad internal communication, the facilities aren't kept up well ( the maintenance issues are a nightmare). Talk to your staff and asked them how to improve what you do. Ask them what they would change and then do it. There is a book by Jim Collins called Good to Great I would highly recommend it.

I have been working at Simply Self Storage (More than a year)

    Pros

The atmosphere can be fun and the customers you meet and provide a fun job. The prices are reasonable and the pay is not bad as long as you are assigned to one store / don't have to travel

    Cons

Hidden fees that can add up way to fast and hours can be very long / weeks (holidays mostly). The pay can affect you if you are the one that has to travel from one store to another.
