I have been working at Solution Tree full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It feels good to support and promote excellent work that really helps educators and students. The company is growing, and management supports new ideas and products. The work is varied, interesting and professionally challenging. It's a great group of people, and an innovative company.

    Cons

The pace is fast, and it can be challenging to coordinate short-term and long-term priorities.

    Advice to Management

Consider allowing Bloomington staff to work from home regularly for part of the work week.

I have been working at Solution Tree full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Team is great. Company is good.

    Cons

Other employees work on outside work while at their desks and the company does nothing to stop them. As I am struggling to learn my position due to lack of any training at all, older employees work when they want to, leave when they want to, work on other work (double dipping/time theft) and no one does a thing. Not only that but managers will say demeaning things and no one intervenes.

I have been working at Solution Tree full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management at Solution Tree really cares about their employees. Communication lines are open, and the whole company meets once a month. Salaries are competitive, with raises, and bonuses follow a profitable year. I never feel "lost in the system" here, and I'm glad to be a Treedweller.

    Cons

A smaller company sometimes means fewer opportunities for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Solicit employee satisfaction data on a regular basis, and always be open to new ideas.

    Pros

Great design projects for book designers

    Cons

Bullying within departments was never addressed

I have been working at Solution Tree full-time

    Pros

They do profit sharing, so if the company is profitable then there is a year-end bonus. They also do above cost-of-living raises for everyone yearly which is great. The management, particularly the CEO and President strive for a good amount of transparency within the company. Lots of great people who value the good work Solution Tree is doing. Another pro is that the values of the company are great, they donate a large portion of the profits to charity each year, and they're doing phenomenal work in schools. Company policy is 8-5, with no expectation to take your work home for most of the employees.

    Cons

Pay is low, but that seems typical for most of Bloomington. The benefits could be better. It seems like some people who don't want to work hard are able to fly below the radar for years with little or no repercussions. The same goes for those who aren't qualified/competent at their jobs. No paid parental leave outside your accrued PTO. Few advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Reward the employees who are making a big day-to-day difference more, and replace those who are dead weight.

I worked at Solution Tree full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I really loved working here! This was my first job out of college and it taught me so much about what I want in a workplace. I found it such an inspirational place to work with people who really care. From the owner, Jeff Jones to the other upper management, it really felt like they cared about their people and the company. I also got to travel a lot which was a great way to see the country. I would go back in a second if I still lived in Bloomington.

    Cons

I don't have many cons, the only thing I can think of is that I wish they hired remote employees so I could come back. This really was the best company I have ever worked for! The only reason I left is because I moved out of state for personal reasons.

    excellent, credible products and services
hands-on opportunities to learn ins & outs of business
    willing to promote from within

    breakneck pace of work

    Advice to Management

Show more appreciation for staff in daily communications. The expectations are high; make it more fun to meet them.

I worked at Solution Tree full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

9-5 each day. Monthly meeting for overall company.

    Cons

Disorganized, no structure, constant computer problems

    Advice to Management

instructions for customer service written down. Write out what each person should be doing each day instead of guessing what should be done. Don't make employees lie to customers all the time. Start reviewing and rewarding employees individually each month, not the entire company as a hole once a year.
