There is no saving a company with poor leadership. Unprecedented turnover.

      Pros

It at least gets security on your resume if that is what you are after. You will learn about the development and security teams role in building, deploying and securing applications.

      Cons

This is no longer a good company. It is a private equity owned company whose only interest is cutting cost. In the last three years Veracode has been acquired by CA, sold to Broadcom, sold to ThomaBravo. Veracode has a first time CEO who has destroyed what was once a great culture. She loves the title and is focused on her own self promotion and propping herself up despite a declining company. She is clearly in over her head to the point that the majority of the executive team came from ThomaBravo owned companies. The culture has degenerated into forcing their own political viewpoints rather than running an organization focused on revenue, technology and people. While they have a good ranking in Gartner for now they are on borrowed time with a high level of customer abandonment and truly innovative companies emerging in this space. Those are the companies to look at if you are interested in application security. A sad point for any company is when the management team solicits its employees to write positive Glassdoor reviews. Those fake overly positive reviews by the management team are easy to spot. However, so is the decline of what was once a good company. Stay away.

      Sinking ship, poised for sale

Jun 15, 2021 - Director of Software Engineering in Burlington, MA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Used to be a good company but since the changes in engineering leadership late last year it has been wild west. Lots of good engineering leaders and managers have left and the company is now left with a B-Team. The only people left are the ones who cannot find a job elsewhere.

      Cons

No process in engineering, we used to do SAFe which although quite heavy on process was at least predictable. At the moment, the top company priorities change every week. No good leaders left in engineering, ivory tower architecture seems to be driving most of the priorities without any understanding of the product or the application security market. Company seems to be poised for sale for the 4th time. All hiring in engineering is frozen and backfills are not happening. Over 50% attrition in engineering and PM in the last few months. CEO must take action on the terrible hire she made to lead engineering. Unfortunately, it may be too late. All culture is destroyed and we haven't shipped any new features for the past 6 months. Competitors are all having a field day with new launches and bringing differentiated capabilities in the market while the Veracode ship slowly sinks.

Nothing but opportunities to grow while the company is growing

Mar 23, 2021 - Marketing Manager in Burlington, MA

      Pros

Because Veracode is in growth mode, everything happens very fast but for those marketers who want to make a difference, there is no shortage of opportunities to do great work. If you want to think outside the box and make a huge impact on the success of the company - you're encouraged to do so. If you're marginal and don't want to work hard or creatively and expect a promotion because of the length of time employed in a role, this is not the place for you! Veracode is becoming the market leader and competing against much larger organizations in the security space. Technology and innovation in the security space rapidly changing the way companies do business and that makes working at Veracode rewarding.

      Cons

There's a lot of work to do, no doubt. The pandemic has changed the most fun parts of the corporate culture but is taking steps to engage with employees as we continue to find a new norm. Hire more people to support larger initiatives and not dilute strategic initiatives with administrative and repeatable tasks.

SOME uneven out of touch management and leadership causing exits

May 28, 2021 - Program Manager in Burlington, MA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Flexible working schedules if you have the right manager. Challenging and rewarding work if you have the right team and structure.

      Cons

Problem is that depending which team you're on it's hard to move up, get compensated correctly and actually have your voice heard. Right now it's the wild west again and for a fairly small company it should not be that way. They need certain roles to be kept to bridge the gaps better...it's getting there but then the people advocating and making those changes leave because they are not being heard later...it's political and leadership in some areas very poor.

Titanic sinking - Band keeps on playing

May 29, 2021 - Anonymous Employee in Burlington, MA

      Business Outlook

      Pros

There were a lot of pros. But all have gone out of the door. It all started when the CRO and the SVP eng left in 2020. Since then its the Titanic. This ship is sinking and the band is playing as nothing has happened. The new engineering leaders that have been brought in are out of touch with reality and over their head. You wonder why people are leaving ?

      Cons

Over the last year a toxic culture that has been created. CEO and HR have been told many times and they look the other way as nothing is wrong. There are over 16 managers in engineering and product management have left in the last 6 months. Why do you think that is ?

      - Great culture. Lots of support from teammates. Very little politics - Exciting products and market with tons of marquis customers - While still many improvements possible, many top notch systems, available employee tools, and profitable. Overall, the company runs well.

      Cons

      - High paced environment with lots of changes can often be stressful - Mounting technical debt has required tough decisions, but is finally being addressed with the help of new leaders. - Recent salary and hiring freeze has been a challenge, but at least no layoffs from COVID economic impact
