Meet our Atrium Health Extern teammate, David! Growing up without a present father figure, David’s mother and grandmother were the two strongest role models in his life and contributed to his great respect for women. He developed an early passion for helping women maintain healthy lives through cutting-edge technology and positive change for women’s issues. “Working in labor and delivery allows me the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life on either the very best or very worst day of their life,” David said. David attended University of North Carolina at Charlotte and began working at Atrium Health through clinical rotations. He said, “Atrium Health is known to have excellence in all areas of care. It has taken care of my family, friends and community." He joined the Levine’s Scholars Program and came to admire his mentor’s career as a Certified Nurse Midwife. “I fell in love with the career she has, the impact she makes, and the intelligence and nurturing the field provides,” he said. “This introduced me to nursing.” In 2022, David began working as a Healthcare Technician at Atrium Health University City in the Maternity Unit. After his externship on Carolinas Medical Center Labor & Delivery Unit the following summer, he found his true calling within health care and plans to spend the rest of his career within the labor deck. Live purposefully at Atrium Health.
