This spring we released our first integrated annual report and we're happy to share that it received a Silver Prize for Editorial Communication from Stratégies, a leading French magazine specializing in Marketing and Communications. Titled "Being Essential," the report illustrates how BIC creates value for all our shareholders, including consumers, customers, suppliers, team members and beyond. We're honored to be recognized and proud to continue providing value all over the world.
The BIC Corporate Foundation is helping French youth tell the story of humanity’s relationship with the ocean through a writing program with non-profit Labo des histoires. The Ocean Diaries is a project by Labo des Histoires to encourage writers of all ages to share perspectives on the ocean and the environment. Labo des Histoires recently hosted a writing workshop at our Stationery factory in Bolougne-Sur-Mer, France, and we were fortunate to have students from Réseau E2C lend their voices. Since Réseau E2C helps students who have faced difficulties finish high school and begin their careers, we also hosted a tour of our factory and introduced the students to BIC team members who showed them the jobs and skills needed to make our products. It was a great event, and we loved connecting with these hardworking students. Thanks to Labo des Histoires and Réseau E2C for the opportunity to keep #WritingTheFutureTogether.
We are pleased to announce that BIC Cello has named Manos Nikolakis General Manager of operations in India. This month, we were honored to be included in the 100th anniversary celebration of Huntington Fire Co. 3, a firefighter company local to our US headquarters in Shelton, Connecticut. The fire company’s event included the Connecticut State Firefighters Association, Inc.’s annual parade, which this year processed through the City of Shelton and ended with an awards ceremony and festivities in front of our office. The firefighters enjoyed a beautiful afternoon, took a picture with our BIC Boy statue, and welcomed our BIC Lighter team to provide giveaways and lighter safety information. Congratulations to these brave men and women on their milestone anniversary, and thank you always for your service.
Our team members are our greatest ambassadors. Last week, in Clichy, we introduced them to our latest BIC® Gel-ocity® Quick Dry campaign in the UK, Italy and Spain with Mac Lethal (one of the world’s fastest rappers). With campaign information, raffle prizes and more for team members to enjoy, the enthusiasm might just have been flowing faster than Mac Lethal’s rhymes.
Africa is a major emerging market for BIC, and last month, 22 team members there toured Morocco’s major cities, from Tangier in the North to Agadir in the South, to help make the BIC® Cristal Up pen a bestseller. They visited 636 stores, installed 1,380 displays, and sold 15,000 products in *just one day.* Congratulations to these team members on their outstanding work.
It’s back to school season and for the fifth year, BIC had the privilege of partnering with Walmart, the United Way of Northwest Arkansas and other brands on the Fill the Bus program! This fantastic initiative provides school supplies to school districts, local non-profits and children in need in Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri.
BIC cares about improving lives through education and about building a globally sustainable future. Working with TerraCycle in Europe has already helped us make great strides toward achieving both goals, so we’re expanding this winning partnership to make a difference in Australia too. Working with TerraCycle in Australia and New Zealand moves our sustainability and education efforts forward by: - Making our pens and markers 100% recyclable in Australia and New Zealand - Incentivizing recycling: participants can earn $1 toward the local schools or charities of their choice for every kilogram of writing instruments they collect …And more. Our commitment to reducing our environmental footprint is ingrained in our values, and we’re thrilled to be able to provide Australians and New Zealanders with a free solution for recycling writing instruments with TerraCycle. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMcDG
