Nearly one-third of the world’s population—more than two billion people—lack access to safe water. And nearly all of them have no way of knowing if the life-sustaining liquid they draw from a village pump could kill them or make them deathly ill until it’s too late. A few months ago, developers in India turned to GIS to devise a safe drinking water solution. Read here to learn more about this initiative to manage water quality through GIS.
Mapping the ocean has a plethora of benefits with climate modeling being the most urgent. Shockingly, less than 20% of the ocean floor has been mapped, and 13% of that was accomplished in the last four years. Dawn Wright, Chief Scientist of Esri, explains why we need to map the ocean and what support is required to get the job done.
