Happy Earth Day everyone! We asked our employees to have their children, nieces, and nephews create works of art to symbolize what Earth Day means to them. It was fun seeing their creativity, and we wanted to share a few of their masterpieces with you. Who knows, maybe this activity inspired them to pursue a career in GIS! What if we could better understand the world's biggest challenges simply by looking at a map? In this TED Talk Esri president Jack Dangermond discusses how his company is building a geospatial nervous system: a global, interconnected GIS network that reveals patterns and visualizes trends -- and could transform the way we make decisions about nearly everything and design a better future.
Meet Darnell, a senior software development engineer working on ArcGIS Insights, Esri’s product that fuses location analytics with business intelligence to help our customers answer questions they didn’t know to ask, allowing them to make better business decisions. “I was drawn to Esri because of the great work they do for our community. That made me really excited to join the company. Once I joined, I learned about all the ways they impact the world to truly make it a better place,” says Darnell. After a short time with Esri, he was invited to play for the Los Angeles Lakers D League team, an opportunity he couldn’t pass up. After playing for two years, Darnell returned to Esri. “The most rewarding part of my work is when I go to conferences and see all the great ways our partners and consumers use ArcGIS Insights to solve issues effectively,” he says. “My career growth has been amazing. I’ve grown as a developer, but maybe even more importantly I’ve grown as a person.” Read Darnell’s full story at https://www.instagram.com/p/CLumib1pdeb/.
Location intelligence can help build a more equitable and just world where a person's race or ethnicity does not impact their outcomes. Mapping and GIS can provide insight into patterns of inequality and bring communities together around a common understanding to drive change. https://www.esri.com/about/newsroom/arcuser/sharing-black-perspectives-on-the-racial-implications-of-place/
Meet Andrea, a senior writer and team lead in Marketing, who writes new web content for Esri.com and helps set best practices for web writing. “I was drawn to Esri’s culture and values of conservation and sustainability, and by the amazing work it does in the world,” she says. Since joining Esri two years ago, Andrea has grown in her career in a number of ways. “I’ve grown as a leader, starting as an individual contributor and now managing my own small team of awesome writers.” https://www.instagram.com/p/CLNDpnlpWu8/
Meet Leslie, who plays an active role in recruiting 100 students for our internship program. Her job doesn’t end there though! Once students are on board, she is also heavily involved in helping them develop their careers as young professionals through the many programs and activities we offer over the summer. “Connecting with students from all over the world makes my job exciting and fulfilling.” Read Leslie’s full story at https://esriurl.com/LW.
The crucial role of geographic thinking to address pandemic response goes beyond dashboards. Este Geraghty, Esri's Chief Medical Officer, looks at how GIS can help identify where disparities exist, and how localized insights can drive solutions. #geography #esriexperience
Meet Shobana, a principal software development engineer in the Esri R&D Center-Melbourne. She works on the ArcGIS AppStudio team and is responsible for product release planning, working with other developers to resolve technical issues, reviewing code, and mentoring junior developers. How does Shobana stay connected with her colleagues in the US who are some 8,000 miles away? “My day starts with a 15 minute catch-up for casual chat and sharing amazing stories,” she says. “We also have daily stand-up meetings, and group and one-on-one chats via Microsoft Teams are very helpful in bringing the team together.” Why Esri? “Mobile application development is one of the fastest growing industries with new platforms and applications coming every day,” says Shobana. “At Esri, we are able to make a difference by developing mobile apps that enable people to apply GIS to perform a wide range of tasks in various fields. It’s rewarding to see the products we develop being used by customers to solve critical problems around the world. Esri’s impact on the world makes it a great place to work."
