Freeman is committed to a culture-rich workplace focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. For Black History Month, we asked a few of our Freeman colleagues to share what this month means to them. Today, we’re talking to Erica Adamo, Client Solutions Director. Why is it important to have an inclusive work environment? Inclusiveness in a work space is vital. This not only outpaces a company from their competitors, but also will earn loyalty from their employees. This will allow employees to feel that they’re respected and their perspectives are valued. What does it mean to be an ally to Black colleagues? To continue to improve relationships with Black colleagues, I think one of the best things we can do is listen and learn. It is important to me to look for opportunities from their experiences in their professional space. By doing this maybe I can learn something from them, help them accomplish their professional goals, and be a friend through any concerns they might have.
“At Freeman, we recognize the need to accelerate towards global net-zero emissions and for the events industry to play its part in helping to deliver on the goals. It’s imperative that we, as an industry, work together to minimize our carbon footprint now, and focus on the long-term to drive meaningful progress.” – Freeman CEO Bob Priest-Heck

Today, we’re talking to Jana Hawkins - VP, Conferences & Events. What does Black History Month mean to you? Black History Month is important because it gives me an opportunity to reflect, appreciate, celebrate, and acknowledge my culture in all aspects of society. Why is it important to have an inclusive work environment? An inclusive work environment creates a positive dynamic amongst colleagues – and it increases engagement and performance, which in turn will lead to company growth. What does it mean to be an ally to Black colleagues? My colleagues can be an ally to me and my other Black colleagues by understanding privilege, being a change agent, and ensuring everyone has a voice within the organization.

Freeman is committed to a culture-rich workplace focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Black History Month kicked off on February 1 and to celebrate, we asked a few of our Freeman colleagues what this month means to them. Today, we’re talking to Lauren Balcazar, Regional Payroll Manager. What does Black History Month mean to you? To me, Black History Month is a time for reflection; to think about issues of the past and those we still face today. And to appreciate all the things that black culture has contributed to this country – education, innovation, food, music, heart, and soul. Why is it important to have an inclusive work environment? Representation matters! It is important for our workplace to reflect what the United States has always been – a melting pot of people, cultures, and religions.
