“It's encouraging to know that someone has your back, but to have a mentor that's going to fight for you is a great thing to have, and that's what gives me the most passion and fulfillment in what I do at Life Time.” For Alonzo Washington, the Lead General at Life Time Apex in North Carolina, establishing a safe space where you could find both inspired him to co-create and lead The BIPOC Network, an employee affinity group for Black, Indigenous, and people of color. Through meetings and mentorship sessions, The BIPOC Network amplifies the voices and experiences of Life Time Team Members with guidance to help them grow and thrive.
"I was working as a welder for an HVAC company and wanted to earn extra income on the side and be able to workout. Life Time has every fitness amenity possible; I applied to work within Facility Operations at Austin North as a Supervisor, but now I am a full-time Facility Engineer. I like being a Facility Engineer at Life Time because you can always learn something new and get help from other engineers in the area - there is always support if we can't solve the problem. It's exciting to challenge myself to learn about other trades because, as an Engineer, I'm responsible for managing air, plumbing and electricity. Health is the main priority; Life Time helps me get my workouts in after work while my boys are in the Kids Academy or squeeze in an early workout before I start my day." - Rolando, Facility Engineer at Life Time Austin Downtown
Community strength is built on a foundation of belonging. Membership Concierge, Máximo A., shares how his Latino and Native values of gratitude, respect and love help him create a welcoming space for members to find belonging. “If people feel that genuine sense of community and connection with others — that’s how we take care of each other. That’s how we look after one another. It is at the foundation of all of that work.” — Máximo A., Membership Concierge at Life Time 281 in San Antonio For more Team Member stories and how we work to make Life Time a place for everyone, head to our inclusion page: https://careers.lifetime.life/inclusion.
Mental health doesn’t have to be about mental illness or a crisis. It can simply be having a hard time existing in your mind some days." Life Time Mind Director Brie suggests a few tips to shift out of a negative headspace. - Never underestimate a good breath with a long exhale – it can shift blood flow to the more grounded part of your brain - A quick 2-minute walk provides bilateral stimulation and a way to shift our state of being - We crave connection! Find a safe person to process your thoughts and feelings with – it makes a BIG difference - Evaluate thoughts as helpful or not helpful and actively coach yourself, 'I don’t have time for this!' with disempowering thoughts Mental health is total body health!
"I’ve always had a deep passion for sports and fitness. After being deployed with my husband, we moved to Colorado and joined Life Time. I quickly fell in love with the culture, brand and inviting atmosphere. I immediately knew this was a place I wanted to be a part of! Whether you were in a group fitness class or just asking for help everyone was warm and welcoming. The club was and is somewhere I felt safe and happy with my family. Life Time is more than a health club - it's a lifestyle. I began my career as a Kids Instructor and moved up through the department into the Lead position in 2021. As a Kids Leader, I connect and relate with families like mine, from the Military families that move often and are always looking for a place to feel like home or to the families that Spanish is their first language and can find me or a lot of my team members to connect with. I found it critical to grow confidence in members who felt there wasn't a place for their children and could see them thrive in our environment. I believe that being a Leader begins with developing young adults into being ready to take on the workforce. I cultivated an open-door policy culture while infusing our mission throughout the team to provide the Life Time experience for everyone." - Glory Casillas, Kids Leader at Life Time Centennial
“In Facility Operations, we are really the binder, I will call it, to the clubs. We have great performers in studios, and we have great performers in the personal training field, our spa teams, and our cafe teams. But each of those dynamic groups is in their spaces, and they hold our members to giving them that great experience in those spaces. Where in operations, our space is the whole facility. Being the best, the cleanest club, those are things that we provide. Then from the member’s perspective, how can I provide them with a better place to come each and every day? Whether that’s a clean facility, whether we’re repairing something, whether we’re making something new, giving them that experience to come into Life Time as a wow factor is really what keeps me driven.” Troy has been at Life Time for over 15 years working across a variety of departments and today at a Regional Leader of Excellence - hear his story and learn more about the career of a Life Time on our careers website.
Some of the best instructors have been through their own fitness journey and use their transformation as inspiration to help others do the same. Becca Rigg, a mother of five, uses her weight loss journey to connect with people in her classes and training sessions! “I had just had my fifth baby, so I was carrying a lot of that postpartum baby weight. I got in there, and I had never done any strength training before. I was cardio only. And here’s this big beautiful gym. I hired a trainer, and she got me away from the cardio and onto the strength floor, and I fell in love. I know all the excuses, the roadblocks. I know all the setbacks because I’ve experienced them. There’s no finish line in fitness. This is your new lifestyle. This is the journey. So it’s fun for me to be able to relate to it.”
