"Our hospitals have been the source of hope and help through the whole dark journey — open through long, difficult days and nights, staffed with committed teams doing their jobs, the bulwark from which we confronted an unprecedented challenge. It is not exaggerating when we describe hospitals as indispensable community assets, providing critical support for the entire nation as we have slowly made our way through the COVID-19 crisis." “I want to be the person my doctors and nurses were for me.” Emily Busha is a familiar name on the Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital medical-surgical floor. Born with Total Colonic Hirschsprung’s Disease, Emily has a long history with, and deep connection to, the hospital. Her connection to her childhood doctors and nurses inspired her to follow in their footsteps – she now works alongside two of her longtime nurses, on the same floor where she and her brother used to be patients.

Moms remember the birth story for every baby they deliver — the good and the less-than-stellar. As a labor and delivery nurse at MultiCare Covington Medical Center’s Family Birth Center, Heidi Johnson, RN, works hard to make sure every mom in her care has the best birth story. “I’m a mom; I had babies,” Johnson said. “A mom doesn’t forget her labor. I had good and bad in my labor story. You want the best care for your baby. It’s their birth story, and I think about that. I try to treat my patients how I want to be treated.”
This week marks a week of appreciation for volunteers across the country — National Volunteer Week. Follow along this week as we highlight and celebrate our unique and dedicated volunteers. John McCarthy, a retired judge, came to MultiCare Volunteers Services wanting to give back. It didn’t matter where — he offered his help “wherever was needed.” Turns out, that was at the MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital Gift Shop. John has gained quite the following — customers now know him by name and look forward to seeing him when they come in.
Dr. Prakash Gatta was diagnosed with COVID-19 in March of 2020, the early days of the pandemic. 9 months after being diagnosed, Dr. Gatta received his COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020. Today, as a COVID long-hauler, he still experiences chest pain and exercise intolerance, and it took almost ten months after being diagnosed to get his baseline heart rate back to normal. His advice for everyone? Seek help when you need it. “A lot of people have shied away from health care during the pandemic. It’s important that if you’re having issues to talk to you provider. I’ve always been really healthy and rarely saw doctors until this year. People need to be able to feel vulnerable and seek help if they need it.”
We are excited to officially welcome Capital Medical Center and its 700 employees to MultiCare Health System. Women's History Month is a time to recognize the incredible contributions of women to our collective history. Women hold 76 perecent of all health care jobs, and in some health care occupations, such as nurse midwives, speech pathologists, dental assistants and medical assistants, women account for at least 90 percent of workers. MultiCare would not be the organization it is today without the contributions of one woman, Fannie C. Paddock, the founder of the first hospital in Tacoma, Washington –– known today as MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital.
We're seeking RNs to join our hospital-based critical care units in Washington state. Up to $10k sign-on, relocation, and $20k student loan forgiveness available.
