For Liz, Senior Supervisor at Au Bon Pain at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, feeling appreciated is one reason why she loves working at Sodexo. When promoted to a senior position, Liz wanted to do just that for her own team. “It’s important to make sure your team feels valued and comfortable together. I always do small things to let them know they are appreciated,” says Liz. The food service industry often faces a high turnover rate, but Liz has created such a positive environment that her team always comes back each year with smiles on their faces and ready for the next challenge. We want to thank Liz, her team, and all the food service workers at Sodexo. Your daily commitment to creating a healthy and positive environment for all significantly impacts the employees and customers we serve.

In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, we are sharing the stories of two employees who joined Sodexo through our partnership with the Down Syndrome Association of Greater New Orleans (DSAGNO) which offers employment to DSAGNO members interested in starting a career in hospitality. Julia D. recently joined Sodexo and works at the Superdome in the Dome Suites kitchen, assembling and wrapping cookies and petit four trays. "Julia learns by example, by watching how other people work with each other respectfully and collaboratively and having pride in what they do. She is learning all that by being part of the team," explained Julia's mother, who accompanies Julia as her job coach. Hannah L. started working with Sodexo at the Superdome in 2018. Since starting at the Dome, Hannah has completed a four-year college program and is back for another season with the Saints. "I like working there. Working in the cold prep kitchen gave me confidence. My favorite job is wrapping up food and helping make sandwiches to put on serving trays." Read more about Julia and Hannah's stories.
"Food is a universal language that breaks boundaries. It brings people together, sparks conversations, and allows us to appreciate each other's culture. Whether I'm making my grandma's recipes or having a coffee, it just keeps you grounded within your culture. Sometimes, you forget, but it's a bridge to my past and history." Danny Medina, Regional Vice President and General Manager for Sodexo Live!, is a first-generation American whose parents immigrated from Cuba. Learn more about how his heritage influenced his life and career and how food brings communities together.

Akilah made the switch from contractor to full-time employee because she couldn't find the career growth and progression that she experienced at Sodexo with her other employer. "There are so many opportunities to act and grow at Sodexo that I had never encountered anywhere else. After my contract ended with Sodexo, I tried to find that same thing with my contracting firm, but to be completely honest, once you see the world and know what other options are there, it really made me appreciate being at Sodexo even more." Learn more about Akilah's transition from contractor to full-time and her career growth and development.
