Benefits are surprisingly good, especially for mental health, and scheduling is varying levels of flexible depending on the position. Moving up is pretty likely as long as you’re performing well and the timing is right. I saw reviews mentioning bad management, but it’s all dependent on who the manager is (most of mine have been good.) Some customers aren’t fun, but most are so much nicer compared to most retailers.

The pay and workload, man. My paycheck can’t even last me until the next, and I’ve got people to feed. The company has opened up so many stores in the last few months, would really love if some of that money came to us.

I love working at Hot Topic because of the inclusivity, flexibility, and talent coaching. The rest of my team and I get along very well, there has never been a dull moment around them. I personally love the people I have a connection with in my store and district. I am a person who often gets overwhelmed when working , but working at Hot Topic is a nice change of pace. There is a structure to everything I do and problem solving is very easy because there are guides to nearly every procedure in the store. I am confident in my position and am constantly putting in effort to improve. Other positive factors include the option to receive benefits, aid for schooling, and of course paid time off. Building relationships with regulars and first time shoppers is another one of my favorite experiences. Overall, there are many wonderful reasons to work at Hot Topic.

The most critical complaint I have for Hot Topic as a company would be the pay. I have discussed this my district manager and regional manager. I often feel that my work is not being compensated, even with the frequent "bonuses". I want to work harder and be the most efficient I can, but there is only so much I am willing to do with my current status and paychecks. I cannot wear myself out and only be rewarded with a sub-par paycheck and a high five. I have heard numerous others' complaints about management, competition, and selling practices. I do not particularly agree with out selling practices but I do understand why they are in place and how they help our store improve. For management, I believe that it simply comes down to the district and store manager(s) to make associates included, welcomed, and appreciated. (notice how I did not say "feel" in that sentence). All in all there are always going to be ups and downs in occupations. If you want to see a change, you have to do it yourself.

The job is fun, and you get to meet some of the coolest people, both customers and other employees. Hours are generally pretty low, but that allows employees to go to school or work other jobs. The discount is amazing. Part-time management receives benefits.

The pay is bad, and the hours are worse. One of the lower-paying jobs at the mall in my area. Hours are generally extremely limited, especially in slow seasons. There is a lot that needs to be done on each shift, while also ensuring that you try to push sales. Nothing too crazy, but the pay is not high enough for all they want you to do.
