What are perks and other benefits like at IBM?

      An OK place to work

      Data architect
      Current employee

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

There are some good benefits, the strength of the IBM brand on your cv, the pension is very competitive and the size of the company means you have many options to change career

      Cons

pay is not great compared to the market and progression is slow.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Surrounded by smart and creative people, empathic manager, decent salary, very good benefits, flexibility in work schedule, having IBM on a resume

      Cons

It's a huge company - lots of inertia, any sense of job security does not last long, any 'pro' listed above is totally dependent on the team you are on and who the director and VPs are higher up in the org chart - one person could have a great IBM experience while it can be completely awful for another person. People are often more concerned with self-preservation than producing reliable, consistent products and experiences. Tight budgets, reasonably high-attrition that often does not result in the role being backfilled.

      Cons

You can get laid off at any time due to low workload.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Great learning curve. Lots of projects to work on

      Cons

No “real and useful” benefits, no paid overtime, night shifts, low salary compared the knowledge requirements and open market.

It's a good place for work-life balance, but that's it

      Anonymous employee
      Current employee

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Work life balance is pretty good. There is a great culture regarding getting your work done without being micromanaged constantly. There's good faith and trust to the employee.

      Cons

Non-competitive pay, layoffs abundant, senior leadership/executives only care about shareholder price and don't care about employees, constant reorgs, they took away 401k match, slowly chipping away benefits, RTO mandate even though no one wants to work in office, incredible lack of empathy from leadership

Should've known that once a number, treated like one.

      Senior support desk analyst

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Working from home, benefits, perks, points to buy rewards for performance, fair work/life balance.

      Cons

IBM is a very inclusive and diverse company to work for. I was there 5+ years, but it didn't start out that way. I worked for TAOS. Mountain, till IBM absorbed them. Once a number, you were treated like one. The overall culture went down from there after that. It wasn't as personal anymore.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Very, very Chill, good benefits, good travel discounts/perks with the corporate code, pay is good considering how chill it is

      Cons

Not much real work to be done. Lots of layers, lots of BS job titles and it doesn't feel meaningful.
