Interview
The "interview" is an audition. They will make you teach 5 minutes or so of each type of class you want to teach at that facility. If you want to teach yoga, you present yoga. You also want to teach BodyPump? Then you also teach BodyPump. They usually host "open auditions" a few times throughout the year so you are teaching to a small group of people to make it feel more real. Anyone teaching a formatted or choreographed class such as Les Mills then you need to teach from the most recent releases. You find out right away if you were hired.
I had to do a mock class, and afterward had a conversation with the group fitness manager about the role, what to expect, what classes I would teach, etc. it was a pretty straightforward process.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at 24 Hour Fitness (Stockton, CA) in Feb 2011
Interview
I spoke with management who referred me to the online website to fill out an application. I received a call form the district manager a few days later and was personally interviewed and tested for my skills as an instructor of my format. I also needed to provide documentation that I was certified.
