      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Boehringer Ingelheim (Columbus, OH) in Jun 2011

      Interview

A panel of managers, usually 2-3 interview you by asking past accomplishments and skills. The interview process is based on situation/task/action/result. For every question asked, the amswer should align with the STAR format. Afterwards, a panel of HR personnel interview asking more discipline oriented questions. The questions are to be answered using the STAR format.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Boehringer Ingelheim (Columbus, OH) in Jul 2013

      Interview

The application was a sort of standard, "taleo" online applications. Which was then followed up by a phone interviewer. My interviewer was polite, asked several basic form questions, and provided basic details about the company and position. After the phone interview was a work keys assessment (a test given to determine one's mechanical, math, and reading abilities). Then an interview on site. The onsite interview(s) included a session with a representative from H.R., a representative with the management team, a tour of the facility and a group Q&A session. The whole thing took a morning, but it gave a fairly good look at what Life at B/I would be like. Much more extensive than other companies I have interviewed with.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The most difficult thing about the interview was that the interviewers all wanted (the interviewee) to follow what is called the STAR model. (first give a Situation or Task, then give what Action was taken, and then give the Result of it all). While it would be good interviewing technique to try to use this model in any interview, some questions are difficult to answer in this formulaic way. I had the good fortune of having interviewed for a technician position previously and knew the expectation coming in to the interview for the position I was offered. If you are reading this in preparation for an interview at B/I, prepare your answers accordingly. You will be asked about your experiences and behaviors and expected to answer in this format.
