Brought in for half-day interview. First met with HR woman, very pleasant conversation. Then met with the team, four guys none over 30 years old. Everything when swimmingly well until the last session with the hiring manager, a woman probably in her 30s. Her last question was the "where do I see myself in five years" one, and I jokingly replied "Retired!" I then explained what I really meant is at this stage in my career I am not angling to climb ladders but be a good team contributor. Her demeanor when cold and I was quickly sent on my way. I consider it my first encounter with overt age discrimination (I'm 59).
