I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at GoPro (Paris) in May 2023
Four months ago I went through the interview process with GoPro for a senior software engineer position, and my experience was a mixed bag. The recruiting firm’s initial contact and introduction to GoPro were smooth, with a clear discussion about my profile and salary expectations. The GoPro recruiter I spoke to was pleasant, and we had a detailed conversation about what I could bring to the company. However, despite upfront salary expectation discussion with the recruiting firm and GoPro, the eventual offer was significantly below my expectations. The interview stages, including a positive discussion with the team manager and a comprehensive technical test, went well. I successfully completed the exercise, and GoPro’s recruiter promptly initiated the internal process for an offer. Unfortunately, the offer received was a lowball, far from the salary range - 20K below - I had clearly communicated earlier in the process. Upon rejecting the initial offer and expressing my expectations, the recruiter explained the company’s constraints, citing other engineers with significantly more experience (12 years) being paid considerably less. This left me with the impression that my skills and experience were undervalued, and it was disappointing to see my efforts during the interview process not reflected in the compensation offered. While I appreciate the positive aspects of the interview experience, the final compensation negotiation left me with reservations about GoPro’s commitment to recognizing the value of experienced professionals in their team. In conclusion, while there were positive aspects to my interview experience with GoPro, the substantial disparity between my communicated salary expectations and the final offer was disheartening. The lack of alignment in compensation and the recruiter's explanation about the company's pay structure left me questioning the value placed on experienced engineers within the organization. The negotiation process felt like a waste of time, and it raised concerns about the company's commitment to valuing its engineering talent. Additionally, the apparent discrepancy in promoting junior engineers to senior positions within a short timeframe added to my reservations - have a look at their marketing videos. As a result of my experience, I cannot recommend GoPro as an employer for engineers seeking fair compensation and recognition for their expertise.

The overall interview steps were quite standards. - HR - Tech - Live coding The issue I had was that during the live coding exercise. I lot of engineer were present. Even engineers that had nothing to do with the process, domain or expertise. In total including me, we were 8 engineers. I don't know what could justify this except trying to stress the interviewee.
- Standard questions, SOLID principle, etc.

I only had the HR interview but it was in my opinion a success, the interviewer was very kind and i had a good time answering the questions I had to describe where i applied the frameworks from the job description and if any, describe my leadership ability
- Where i applied opencv and what programming languages do i frequently use

Product development, challenging environment. Many cool tasks. Extremely long recruitment process and with very limited feedback during the process. Interviews' goals are not clear and most interviewers are not prepared. After 5 interviews got rejected because of "different values" which I was talking about from the first interview.
- What do you value? How do you work with the team? What do you do in spare time?

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at GoPro in Jan 2023
Three rounds of interviews First one is with recruiter. (1 hour) Second one is with the hiring manager. (1 hour) Third one is with managers and team members. (Expect whole day, but actual time is around 5 hours)
- Questions include high level programming concepts. Such as private, public, inheritance, constructors, destructors, decorators… etc.

I interviewed at GoPro
Recruiter call, hiring manager call and then 7 1:1 panel interviews that were 45 minutes each with various members of the team. Asked for an additional hiring manager call after receiving an offer.
- Many questions about "tell me about a time when you" or "how have you" regarding cross-functional collaboration, conflict, product decisions, etc.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at GoPro (Paris) in Oct 2022
I was recruited through a tech recruiter, so I skipped the HR interview. I had a classic first phone call with my manager for me to present myself, and for him to present the company and team. I had some basic technical questions. Next, they invited me for a live coding session which I preferred doing on-site. There was the manager and 3 other devs who were present. I had a little exercice to complete in about 2 hours. They made me feel confortable and made it clear it was not like an exam, but more a way to see how I work.

Spoke w recruiter, then hiring manager, then did a take home. The hiring manager told me the project assigned would likely be too difficult for me and okay if I quit, I have two yoe so the basis for that comment I will leave open for inferences lol. I did not move forward because the hiring manager would not open the Xcode workspace. I imported Cartography, mistakenly thinking no third party code meant source code and not libraries. Cartography is no powerhouse, it just makes constraint code look clean. Wouldn’t apply in the future, speaking on what’s too difficult for a candidate wouldn’t fly at most other tech companies. Not professional and indicates a stance. This is more of a utah/suburban tech company than a sf/nyc company, so not really surprised. Rules are def rules, but occasionally you can tell whether someone is acting in good faith. The recruiter seemed nice. Glad I was rejected, but wish I would’ve acted on that comment and declined to go forward w the take home based on it, I really hate that I spent the time.
- Lots of what’s a class kind of questions, then take home

Efficient and Informative, and very welcoming at the same time. Great process from application submittal through the final interview. Recruiter was terrific about keeping in touch with me through the entire process.
