I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Groupon (Toronto, ON) in May 2013
Interview
Was contacted by a recruiter, they were coming to Toronto to interview en masse.
Showed up, interviewed with 4 different people all 4 asked a few questions about my resume then had a battery of technical problems.
One person I interviewed with was very vague with questions, and refused to answer any clarification questions.
One there was a severe language barrier, that made it difficult to understand the question.
The remaining two were clear and engaging.
On my way out I confirmed with the receptionist that, yes, they do contact with a decision either way.
After this I returned home and never heard anything back from them. It has been just shy of 2 months and I haven't heard back from anyone. Contacting the recruiter twice has only gotten me messages of "I'll look into it and get back to you" without any followup
The promise of reimbursing me for travel is still unfulfilled.
I'm not dissapointed that I didn't receive an offer, but I'm more than disappointed with the lack of communication regarding it.
The battery of tests unfortunately only gave them knowledge of my ability to solve programming contest problems on a piece of paper. Nearly no questions that would give them any insight on being an employee or working with a team.
