Interviewed for Hitachi Asia Ltd, Singapore office.
Two rounds of interview conducted in Q1 2021, first was an online interview with a manager and team lead. Slightly disorganised, one party was non-participative due to an inconducive WFH environment. They were also upfront about the need to work extra hours, particularly when rushing projects. However they were very detailed and meticulous in explaining and describing the role and its benefits and requirements, which was very much appreciated.
Attractive points included regional exposure, strong buy-in from management and full line-up of events and programmes, coronavirus notwithstanding.
Second round was in person at their Tampines office, with local team lead and Japanese team lead dialing in. Contrary to the Japanese fastidiousness on punctuality, the set-up for the video call was only done after I had arrived with a few tweaks and glitches that followed.
Interview questions were mostly led by the Japanese counterpart, who was charismatic, well-spoken and forward-thinking in his approach. Asked to hear about specific examples about my experience and how this can be an asset to the value I bring to Hitachi.
Was honestly very excited to be onboard, it's a company with a solid structure and a complex organisational layout but management seemed excited to seek new opportunities and avenues. Unfortunately the compensation fell below expectations, was shocked to be offered a package lower than my current one despite it being a contract role.
Was eventually offered a package matching my present compensation, but eventually declined. Disappointed, but keeping my ear on the ground should they have more attractive opportunities.
