Human resources screened the resume and cover letter and called a couple weeks after the application. The person was helpful in explaining the company's mission, work hours and ethics, but didn't have much real detail on the actual job, nor how to assess how my skills fit with the position. I think it would have been far more helpful to have done minimal screening -- do I sound articulate, can we schedule an interview -- and then pass me on to the appropriate department. It's disconcerting to have a phone interview with someone who doesn't know anything about what you do, and how you can do it, even if your skills are applicable but not necessarily a perfect fit for the position.
