    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Loft9 Consulting (Seattle, WA) in March 2010.

    Interview

They wanted to see if I was sharp enough for them to farm out, asked questions pertaining to the value I could bring to their clients, wanted to make sure I'd always respond to their emails within 24 hours. Nothing surprising.

I applied online. The process took 2+ weeks. I interviewed at Loft9 Consulting in September 2013.

    Interview

They have a 48 business hour SLA in between rounds which is great. Int 1 assesses culture fit and is a 50/50 information gathering interview. Int 2 is a skills assessment with a written presentation prepared in advance. Int 3 is a process and problem solving evaluation. Whole process can be as short as a couple weeks to a couple months depending on firm need and applicant availability and skillset

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Loft9 Consulting (Redmond, WA) in September 2012.

    Interview

Hiring started out initially as a message via linkedin. The interview process encompasses three stages. First stage was an interview with a consultant that was on an engagement. Second interview was with a practice director. And final interview were with the senior members of the company (which had a pre-interview test case and two in interview test cases).

    Interview Questions

    • The final interview had good test cases that are mainly geared to gain insight onto the candidate's thought process.   Answer Question

    Associate Consultant Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Bellevue, WA

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Loft9 Consulting (Bellevue, WA) in April 2018.

    Interview

60 minute behavioral interview structured as a casual conversation. The interviewer states that there are no trick questions and explains their fairly generic interview process used by similar companies like Point B or Slalom. Lots of emphasis on their 48 hour response time...which they later failed to uphold.

Behavioral is followed by writing skills assessment, general skills assessment, and then a final interview involving some case studies over a 3-6 week period.

Most questions during the behavioral are open ended but they are looking for 'right' answers and screening for a certain fit. This company interviews without having open positions but does not actively disclose this without additional prompting.

There are opportunities throughout to ask questions, however the interviewer was unable to answer basic questions like "What did the founders want to achieve by creating their own consultancy?" or "How does the company measure success?"

    Change Management Consultant Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Loft9 Consulting (Seattle, WA) in April 2018.

    Interview

Three step process of two in-person interviews and one written assignment. The writing assignment was a bit like a fishing expedition in that they ask for a detailed example of a former client solution from your resume. Kind of reminded me of how some of the smaller firms used to try having business development conversations with department heads when checking references. I was careful not to share intellectual property and thought it was awkward.

    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Loft9 Consulting (Kirkland, WA) in April 2015.

    Interview

Having interviewed with dozens of companies, I must say that the Loft9 interview experience is a cut above. From the initial discussion through the final stages, the process was painless and I felt like the interviewers were genuinely interested in learning more about me and having a discussion. Culture is a defining characteristic at Loft9 and it's very obvious the company goes to great lengths to recruit the best people.

    Interview Questions

    • There were 3 interviews - an initial discussion to determine culture fit and see if my career interests align with the opportunities Loft9 can provide, followed by a second interview to dive deeper into my experience and how it translates into what I would be doing at the company, and finally a third interview to run through a couple case studies with members of the leadership team. There were no trick questions, some behavioral questions and a good amount of resume-specific questions. The case studies were very much in line with standard consulting case interviews; take a moment to make sure you understand the situation and formulate a response.

The great part about the process is the quick turnaround time - the company prides itself on letting you know about next steps within 48hrs and in my experience has met or exceeded that threshold.   Answer Question

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Loft9 Consulting (Kirkland, WA) in January 2015.

    Interview

Very strenuous! Three segments that are all well coordinated by their recruitment team. The first was your classic 'personality fit' session where I talked through my experiences and asked questions about Loft9's culture. The second dove deeper into my skill sets and professional goals/ competencies. The third was the kicker - a situational interview designed to see how I think on my feet. Overall, it was a fair process that let me interview Loft9 as much as they interviewed me.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6+ weeks. I interviewed at Loft9 Consulting.

    Interview

The first interview was with an associate at Loft9 and it was a very low key, fit interview. He wanted to know a little bit more about my interests and goals, share information about Loft9, and answer any questions I had. It took place at a coffee shop. Prior to the second interview, there was a written questionnaire I needed to complete and send in. The questionnaire consisted of three questions - I was to choose one to respond to. The questions were not difficult. They were all similar in that they asked you to expand on a specific part of your resume or previous work experience. We walked through my answer during the second interview with one of the leaders at Loft9. This second interview also seemed laid back and again, it took place at a coffee shop. The third and final interview was with two senior executives in the company. There were two, verbal case studies as part of this interview and both were very vague. One was on project management and I don't recall the other. The leader who asked both questions was terse and cold. The other was kind. It was as if they were playing good cop, bad cop.

A few days later, I received an offer. The salary was appalling. Know your worth in the conversations with the senior executives and afterward if they extend an offer. My observation and opinion of Loft9 is that they value employee development, however, are not willing to compensate for knowledge, skills, and abilities - and unwilling to negotiate.

    Interview Questions

    • Using an example from your resume, describe a process that you either owned, developed, or improved.   Answer Question
    • Using an example from your resume, explain how you used data to solve a problem or make a decision.   Answer Question

    Reasons for Declining

Their offer was on the border of being offensive. They were unwilling to negotiate. I accepted an offer for a similar position elsewhere at 20k over Loft9's offer.

    Interview

    4 Phased Interview Process:
    1) Cultural Fit Interview
    2) Writing Assessment
    3) Skill Assessment
    4) Consulting Assessment (they throw live scenarios at you and ask you to give mock advice, the scenarios imply you should be ready to talk for 15 minutes or so)

    Interview Questions

    • They spent 6 minutes describing two different mock scenarios. One was a small business with 50 employees, the other was an enterprise scenario. They would give you about 10 minutes to ask clarifying questions. Then you had to advise them for 15 minutes (the numbers are per each scenario, not in total).   1 Answer

    Negotiation

They required a minimum figure by interview 2. In the final interview they poked at whether I'd settle lower, I held my ground.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Loft9 Consulting (Bellevue, WA).

    Interview

Went through 3 rounds of interviews for, in order: culture fit, skills, thought process. The first two are with long-time employees who are currently embedded in companies, to get a strong sense of the company culture and way of doing things, to walk through the resume in detail, and to ask questions in both directions. Prior to the 2nd interview you are asked for a writing sample (an up-to 2 page write-up of a project, process, or analysis you conducted, why, how, and outcome),

The third interview was with a founder and the Managing Director. It was again somewhat social, a walk through the resume, and then a couple of verbal case studies with time limits and a couple of scenarios / approach questions.

All interviews were conducted via Skpe or over the phone - nothing in person.
