What is the implicit bias in a survey conducted to calculate the average household size in the U.S.? How can you correct for that bias.
I couldn't think of anything until she gave the example of sampling three households 5 times. Then it was clear that she was sampling by person not by household, so the average would be weighted higher because of the higher sampling probability of large families. I suggested adjusting by weighting each family by the inverse of the sampling probability. She asked what the sampling probability was. I said family size/population size. She said, "No, family size/sample size."
