United Therapeutics Corporation (UT) was founded by parents trying to save the life of their child who had been diagnosed with a rare and terminal disease we now call pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). At the time, there were limited therapies, and the only known cure was then—and still is today—a lung transplant. Saving lives has always been our priority. That is why, following the overwhelming approval by our shareholders in 2021, UT became the first-ever publicly traded biotechnology company organized as a public benefit corporation (PBC). This aligns our legal form with our longstanding commitment to serve our patients. We believe it also enhances our ability to create superior and sustainable value for all our stakeholders, including our shareholders.
