Mission: Our mission is to employ the best team in the industry to move our customers' business safely, efficiently and on time, every time.
Ruan was founded during a very challenging time. It was the Great Depression. John Ruan's father had passed away, and someone needed to provide for the family. So, despite the risk, the 18-year-old sold his family's car, bought a truck and began hauling gravel around Iowa. Ruan Transportation Management Systems was born.
Today, more than 84 years after that first load of gravel was shoveled by hand, Chairman John Ruan III and CEO Ben McLean—part of the third generation of the Ruan family—continue to operate and lead according to the principles set down by Mr. Ruan: integrity, hard work, innovation, quality customer service and compassion. Ruan continues to research and develop innovations in technology, equipment and safety. And, we're leading the transportation industry's effort to improve its environmental profile.
Whatever the challenge, we're committed to finding new and innovative ways to serve our customers.
Our mission is to employ the best team in the industry to move our customers' business safely, efficiently and on time, every time.
John Ruan began his trucking company with one truck and one load during the depths of the Great Depression. Fueled by a desire to succeed, he soon turned that one truck into a fleet operating throughout the U.S.
Today, his son, John Ruan III, leads the company he started as chairman. And Ben McLean, part of the third generation of the Ruan family, serves as CEO. We have grown to more than 315 nationwide operations; we operate 3,950 power units and 7,500 trailers; and we employ 5,600 team members. Ruan has also expanded into banking, real estate development, export-import operations and more.
At Ruan, people are our most valuable resources. Our mission is to employ the best team in the industry to move our customers' business safely, efficiently and on time, every time. Our team allows us to do just that.
The nationwide Ruan network has many career opportunities—driver, technician, operations and corporate office jobs—along with programs for college students and recent graduates. We offer our employees a comprehensive benefits package, competitive compensation, volunteer opportunities, a healthy work-life balance and ongoing training and development. Our culture of People First makes Ruan a great place to work.
PROFESSIONAL TRUCK DRIVER JOBS
Our professional truck drivers are more than simply a part of this success; they are essential to it. Ruan drivers receive ongoing safety training, full benefits after 60 days and are recognized through several awards programs. More than 60 percent of our truck drivers are home every night, and nearly all are home multiple times per week. That makes for some very satisfied drivers—and is one of the reasons we have a driver retention rate five times the industry average
DIESEL TECHNICIAN JOBS
At Ruan, we are extremely proud of the caliber, professionalism and dedication of our maintenance team. Our diesel technicians and service managers utilize the latest diagnostic tools and equipment necessary to solve today's maintenance challenges. These diesel technicians are truly the engine that drives our business.
Each Ruan employee is an advocate for our customers—searching for ways to improve their supply chain and providing dedicated, personalized service. Achieving this takes a high level of teamwork and dedication, which is why the job of a Ruan terminal manager, dispatcher, service manager and operations manager is so important. We want you to use your abilities to be entrepreneurial and to take ownership of decision-making.
CORPORATE OFFICE JOBS
We count among our loyal customers some of the largest, most respected corporations in the world, and the list keeps growing. Therefore, we hire talented, motivated individuals for our corporate office jobs—and in return we invest in their professional development and provide advancement opportunities. Ruan truly offers opportunities in every direction
COLLEGE INTERNSHIPS AND PROGRAMS
Ruan is consistently investing in the next generation of talent by offering internships to current college students and our management trainee program to recent graduates. Through these positions, young professionals will learn all facets of the transportation industry while developing professional leadership skills. We believe Ruan should be a career decision, not just a job.
I worked at Ruan Transportation Management Systems full-time (More than a year)
Overtime - bonus
Sometimes overwhelming when one co-worker doesn't pull their weight.
I applied online. I interviewed at Ruan Transportation Management Systems (Otsego, MN) in March 2017.
My interview was suppose to start around 7 am. But I decided to leave early that morning and got there around 6:30 am, called up the guy that was interviewing me and we met up at the entrance too the warehouse. He seemed like a nice guy, we shook each others hands and introduce our self. Then he showed me around the warehouse, telling and explaining too me the whole operation of this warehouse and what they did... Then after that walked around the warehouse he asked me if I can operate a lift and I said "yes, sure I can." Then he told me to hop on that lift and perform some maneuver for him too see. So I did and he seemed impressed explaining too me that a lot of people come in here and say that they can drive a lift but when ask too showed, it turns out they really cannot.... So after all that he ask me if I wanted the job and just like that I accepted his offer. Overall the interview was really easy and straightforward.
