Through its operating subsidiaries, the company offers homeowners, auto, and individual and group life insurance, as well as retirement annuities. Horace Mann employs some 700 agents, many of whom are former teachers themselves. Writing business in 48 states and Washington DC, the company derives more than a third of its premiums from five states - California, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, and Texas.
