I have been working at Apptio full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people are great and the medical benefits are good. There’s also free snacks in the kitchen. Company holiday party used to be a lot better but it’s still good.

    Cons

    1. Many roles lack career paths, so unless you’re a driven person you won’t have an easy time advancing. HR has been saying career paths were coming for years but still nothing and no updates on progress are ever communicated out. Just useless words at this point.
    2. The culture has changed a lot, and unfortunately a lot of great people have either left or been driven out. There’s a push for hiring “culture adds” but they’re more subtractions than anything. I feel bad for any new hire.
    3. Any discussions of raises or promotions shouldn’t be taken at face value; unless you have something in writing, don’t expect anything to ever happen. And even when negotiating raises, as a woman, you’ll have to fight the entire way unless you luck out and have a competent manager.
    4. There’s a lot of promotion on how it’s a great place for women to advance their careers, which isn’t accurate; while there is a handful of poster children to throw out as examples, this isn’t a general practice, and a lot of those examples had to fight to advance.

    Pros

They provide decent pay but that's about it

    Cons

This is honestly one of the worst places to work especially if you're a female. The culture is a old boys club that even some females would in on the discrimination to try and get a step ahead. When you see the news about all the big tech companies having discrimination against females in the workplace, you would think the smaller companies would clean up their act but this is not the case.

    Advice to Management

Management is the problem. They need to be on the chopping block soon or maybe a class action suit would finally wake them up to see what they are doing

I worked at Apptio full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay. That's about it anymore.

    Cons

Culture is turning into a fear culture. Upper management goes out of their way to tell us all at their rallies that they won't just suddenly lay people off, but they lead people on right up until the last second and they will send you packing, without even allowing you to get your belongings.

Nonexistent fun culture these days; they promise kegs but they are always empty; they promise moral events but they pick a cheap location in the town over and don't provide transportation... this place no longer feels good to go to, at all. It's rather miserable, actually, and it's all because of the poor leadership in certain departments.

    Advice to Management

Don't violate your own damn principles. People lose faith and will no longer want to work as hard for you. A fear culture is NOT good for the company or it's employees.

    Pros

this company has great people, a strong leadership position in a new and substantial market space, and a get it done culture. all of that makes for a great opportunity for a career.

    Cons

on balance, this company is doing better than most in terms of work life balance and supporting the whole employee. but there is more than could be done here in terms of 401k, health and life balance.

    Advice to Management

    keep it up

    Pros

Culture used to be a huge PRO but over that last couple of years its turned into a mean spirited culture

    Cons

Mid to lower management has NO CLUE what they are doing. They are promoting people just to keep them but they are not qualified nor have any training support to succeed. This is leading to turnover with the best people leaving. Once my options vest I'm gone too

    Advice to Management

Take care of your most valuable assets PEOPLE since we know its not the product

    Pros

Establishing solid barriers to competitive threats

    Cons

HARD to implement & get value
Is it a market if there's little/no competition or magic quadrant?
    Sales haves & have nots

    Advice to Management

For this co to grow from niche to ubiquitous Apptio leadership needs to help market grow v restrict it thru hard to implement product and preventing or consolidating all competitive threats.

    Pros

Leadership truly wants to empower employees to succeed and they seem to really care about them. Great pay, 100% paid employee benefits, restricted stock units, vacation, sick leave and good work/life balance. Company had record growth in 2017 and is now poised to build on this success to gain greater market share.

    Cons

401k, Needs to be more downstream communication from executives

    Advice to Management

Keep us the great work! Communicate more with employees, continue to share the vision and give more people the opportunity to grow from within. More community service/outreach. More work/life balance.
