    Pros

Interns are not stuck with boring administrative tasks but rather are fully engaged in department daily functions. Motivated and competent employees, flexible hours, friendly and transparent company culture, relaxed environment, number of fun company benefits such as yoga and zumba. Strong potential for receiving a full-time position after interning.

    Cons

No real cons for this position

I have been working at BioMed Realty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The 401 K match program was done with thought and analysis. The investment grow at a really good interest rate.

    Cons

Too many processes and procedures with no support for middle management. T he company would be more effective if the structure wasn't contingent on a reverse pyramid where the few do the most work and the majority of the members do the least.

    Advice to Management

Restructures the company so that the operations team get more support from upper management. In addition there should be cross-training with the mindset to promote within. There would be a more cohesive working environment if all departments worked together instead of in silos.

    Pros

Awesome benefits. 401(k) matching, great health insurance, holiday parties, summer outings.

    Cons

Too many levels of middle management. Does not promote within. Rewards people who step on others instead of the most effective workers.

I worked at BioMed Realty full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, casual business attire, good pay, lots of drinking parties if you like to drink

    Cons

Accounts payable does not operate well. After working there for a year I found the employees in that department are disengaged in their work, unmotivated and spend the majority of their time on the instant messenger rather than working. There is no desire to do a "great job" in that department. The group is very "clicky" and focuses more on their social activities rather than work. There is no passion for their work in that group.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the performance of your department. What are they working on? Seeing how they communicate with others is a reflection of their motivation and desire to do a good job. While I was there I saw unethical business behavior. Too much gossiping and not enough work gong on there. Management is not paying attention and these girls know it. They get away with poor conduct and treat coworkers poorly. Executives do not want to work with the AP department because they are so disengaged in their work down there. It is a mess in AP. Get them to love their jobs again, motivate them. Since when is doing your homework on the job instead of your work allowed? Is this the right behavior?

    Pros

Great company instilled with the values of its founder. Treats employees very well and values a work/life balance. The industry the company services (life sciences) is growing and they are well positioned to continue to do well.

    Cons

As the company grows, you may find yourself pigeon-holed into a certain position. Know exactly what job description you are signing up for

    Pros

Creative team atmosphere and culture. Support for modern technology and work tools.

    Cons

Nature of the lab/office market and reporting to Wall Street creates intense pressure for unrealistic levels of operational efficiency and reporting precision, resulting in vast work/life imbalance.

I worked at BioMed Realty full-time

    Pros

Large office space, nice benefits, pay for cost of living, company succeeds despite itself due to nature of REITs, current capital markets and niche in real estate industry

    Cons

Long hours, average to high turnover for industry, narrow job focus due to size of company and bureaucracy, strong underlying politics due to passive/aggressive culture starting from the top, lack of career upside as evidenced by internal surveys (management will tell you they are making progress but they continue to hire externally for higher positions as they grow)

    Advice to Management

Be honest to job seekers about the lack of career upside if you are going to eventually hire someone above them externally and get rid of bad managers that mislead about employee development aspect of experience

Company is always changing which keeps it interesting and they pay competitively.

    Cons

Constant change also creates uncertainty. Different departments are held to different standards.

    Advice to Management

Align entire company with one culture. Increase communications to improve sense of security
