I worked at Cell Signaling Technology full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Company driven by great values. People are relly friendly and almost feels like family

    Cons

New hire at the top changed the whole dynamics. She is steering the company to somewhere the company is not ready. I hope they hold on to their quality first campaign.

    Advice to Management

You do not have to always look outside for talent. As long as you do that you will loose internal talent

    Pros

The bad review of our CIO was obviously in response to some people having to finally wake up, be accountable and produce real work instead of hiding in their offices all day just coming out long enough to blow smoke up the EC's back-sides. I see nothing but good, long overdue changes ahead that will finally get those departments in line with the company's goals.

Professional espresso machines in every building. Banana trees growing in the common area makes it feel like your in the tropics even in the dead of winter. Great company culture. Very supportive of its employees to a fault. Good amount of vacation days. Volunteer benefit allows us to use some work time for a cause we believe in. Supports bike to work and alternative transportation. Installed electric car charging stations. Very outdoors and health focused employees.

As much as humanly possible they only produce the best products. It has so much positive going for it that the growing pains hopefully can be more or less worked out. The upper management seems to really want to provide a good place to work even if at times they have listened to the wrong advice. The company's mission is something that everyone believes in.

    Cons

Prior HR team seemed focused on making sure the kept the salaries as low as possible. Prior IT teams only mission seemed to be to make sure the EC was happy, the rest of the company could go to hell. IT worker bee's work very hard long hard hours, but the management provided bad priorities and tied their hands. New leadership is starting to change things up but it will be a slow process. Still too focused on the reasearchers, there is an entire company that is also working their butts off behind the scenes.

    Advice to Management

Continue to bring in the new staff that are not afraid to question everything. Continue to talk to a larger variety of sources. Narrow the mission. Continue to weed out or retrain those who are not in alignment with the company's goals.

I worked at Cell Signaling Technology full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

CST was a wonderful company to work for. What I appreciated about it most was its dedication to science. Where most companies are ruled by the numbers (i.e., revenue, customer visits), CST's priorities were in creating the very best products for the research community. Instead of quotas, my goals were to build strategic partnerships and educate customers on the value of the products. It was a real education in true value-selling with a company dedicated to quality, the environment and pushing science forward.

    Cons

CST went through some growing pains/restructuring in 2015 which proved to be challenging for both the sales team and the scientists. At that time the vision of the company was not adequately messaged to the outside managers who were hired and many changes were implemented without employee buy-in. This resulted in many employees leaving the company.

    Advice to Management

It's important that the vision of the CEO is distilled down to the sales management so that the actions of the sales reps are aligned. I would advise that a member of the EC be present at every global sales meeting to reinforce the company vision and how that relates to the day-to-day activities of the sales team.

I have been working at Cell Signaling Technology full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    - Exceptional Benefits Package
    - Good Health and Dental at very reasonable price.
    - More or less competitive pay rate with annual bonus
    - Great 401k with match

    Cons

    Office gossip
Managers "love and cherish" their favorite "puppets" and are willing to tolerate and close their eyes on lots of unacceptable behavior.
No appreciation for the "ordinary working bees"

    Advice to Management

Do not forget who made you a successor !

I worked at Cell Signaling Technology (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent products to sell, some flexibility working in field based positions, mediocre benefits, nice summer and holiday parties,

    Cons

Middle management in many departments bullies and harasses some employees, but favors others. Lots of company gossip going on, which de-focuses business. East Coast Sales Manager (past and present) is both clueless and unprofessional. High turnover of field sales reps due to complete lack of management and company direction

    Advice to Management

Recognize experienced sales people, instead of hiring inexperienced sales reps at very low salaries. Stop allowing and protecting the bullying, unprofessional managers. Turnover of sales organization should be a concern.

Great people. Everybody is friendly and helpful.
Open communication with management (at least in my group)

    Cons

I initially took a major pay hike to get into CST but was unable to ever make it up.
Raises and advancement were nothing to write home about.

    Advice to Management

Make some effort to listen to people in the trenches
