Pros

When I started, the company WAS great! The atmosphere WAS fun and exciting. The people WERE great. The culture WAS great. Leadership WAS great. The company USED to care about the employees and their families. However, this was all before 2010 - when the company was purchased by AutoTrader/Cox.

Cons

Now that AutoTrader/Cox owns HomeNet, the leadership changes on a pretty regular basis. People seem to be jockeying for position all the time. Politics are a big deal in this company. AutoTrader implanted their own people into key positions. They promote from within but it's always their own "friends" who get promoted and some of these people are "slackers". They forced people to change their work schedule which upset the work/life balance. Management says they care about their employees and their families but when there are family-needs, the company is quick to ostracize the employee.

HomeNet Auto Response

Thank you for taking time to provide feedback regarding your employment at HomeNet. We are pleased to hear that you had an enjoyable experience during the majority of your tenure with the company. We are sorry to hear about the changes that you personally experienced before your departure. Cox Automotive strives to create an environment that is entrepreneurial, nurtures personal development and builds on unique talents. Team member passion and commitment to excellence have helped make Cox Automotive a leader in the industry. While the timing of your departure may raise questions, Cox Automotive maintains a strict “No Retaliation” policy that it monitors very closely. This past year, leadership had to make tough decisions that would impact the future of the company. As Cox Automotive and its respective brands look to achieve its vision of transforming the way the world buys, sells and owns vehicles, we needed to execute initiatives to make us more efficient and effective. Unfortunately, this meant eliminating roles that were once vital to the growth of the company due to inefficiencies or duplicative work they presented. However, we are always looking for ways to improve. We have provided a copy of the concerns raised in this review to the leadership team. Thank you again for taking time to review your experience and we wish you the best of luck in your career and future endeavors.

Pros

Used to be a great place to work, with lots of intelligent people committed to good software development. Used to be a place where you could learn a lot. Used to be a place where you were evaluated on the basis of your merits, not your ability to play dirty small-time political games.

Cons

Homenet under Cox Auto has lost its way. Career managers with no track record have been brought in to put down innovation and praise mediocre results and "team work." Cronyism and nepotism abound. If you want a "big corporate" atmosphere where you can work 9-5 and watch your skills completely stagnate, but have good pay and job security, Homenet is a great place to work. If you want to play politics, and climb the corporate ladder, and achieve meaningless "success" (and be part of what promises to be a catastrophic failure), Homenet is a great place. If you have any professional pride or interest in self-improvement, steer clear.

Pros

Alright starting pay with increasing compensation based on merit year over year. Full remote Tech Support.

Cons

Management: Entirely remote means you have extremely unsympathetic management at all levels. Upper managers step over lower management to scold or micromanage. Lower management makes no effort to establish their boundaries. Other: Told to never communicate with co-workers while on the clock for anything other than work related topics can easily create hostility and distrust from people at your same level, or between Tier 1 & 2. Shameful assistance provided from Sr support members unless you know who to talk to, but this is frowned upon. Work is unrelenting due to a strained relationship between a sister business unit that is (as of 2021) in the process of a slow and uncoordinated merge that started in 2019. It's a call center where hold times regularly reach 45 minutes, high employee turnover is the norm.
