I have been working at ICF part-time

    Pros

ICF is a premier consulting organization that values people, is committed to sustainability, fairness, and work-life balance. The company's projects create opportunities to work on the leading challenges of our day.

    Cons

Consulting requires a tolerance for uncertainty, a flexible and can-do attitude, and a resilient and persistent work ethic. But ICF provides one of the more stable and sane work environments for consultants to grow and thrive in.

I have been working at ICF full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Salary is nice, especially in the D.C. market. Very friendly management. Supports internal promotions. Strong mission to help others.

    Cons

The benefits are not as good as other consulting companies of a similar size. Focus usually is on Fairfax (HQ) rather than remote employees. Hard to feel included.

    Advice to Management

Look into improving benefit options, especially annual leave.

I worked at ICF full-time for more than a year

    Pros

All organizations have their issues and quirks but ICF was pleasant to work for. The people are definitely the best aspect of working here as I found my coworkers wanting to help one another for the good of the team. I would definitely recommend to working here to others.

    Cons

Deadlines can be tight and there is always a cram to get things done, especially during proposal busy season. At times, coworkers seemed too busy with balancing both their contracts and business development obligations. Overall, that’s par-for-the course in the consulting world though.

    Advice to Management

Continue the good work in finding quality employees. Perhaps consider hiring more to lighten the load.

I have been working at ICF full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great coworkers, great management. The office has a lot of fun activities.

    Cons

Some of the work can be dull for entry level workers, like most jobs. Pay is pretty low for the market, about 5k$ less than most other jobs. Hard to motivate when entry level only gets spot bonuses and you have to compete for them, while my friends get handed free iphones when they work extra hours. Also, the lines of business won't allow you to get work outside of your group. If you interview make sure you ask exactly...

    I worked at ICF full-time

    Pros

Good work/life balance Made some good friends during my time

    Cons

Constant re-branding- identity issues, no focus People thrust into management with no experience, very poor leadership Many internal meetings turned into power struggles of who could bark the loudest

    Advice to Management

Don't sell services to clients that cannot be successfully launched

I have been working at ICF full-time

    Pros

The people! ICF attracts good people. Company benefits are solid including the 401K contribution. Growth, the opportunity to advance is there. They work in so many different lines of business it's overwhelming. You can feel good about what the company represents.

    Cons

Training, depending on who you work for don't expect to have a ton of support to get you ramped up. Salary, make sure you get the pay you are worth at the beginning because the pay increases are limited. As you grow within the company, your work life balance is out the window.

    Advice to Management

Management - spend more time getting to know the people who are performing the work.

I worked at ICF full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

ICF is an organization with a large portfolio of projects. It was a good position compared to the previous company that I was at. I worked on many engaging projects and was lucky to be acquainted with highly skilled peers. The people were the highlight of my time at ICF. The work was not particularly stressful.

    Cons

Some of the technologies that we used in ICF were outdated for the scope of the projects that were being done. As expected within a consulting role, some clients were difficult to work with and provided very little support for their projects. For such a large company that prides itself on professional development, there was not enough support for professional development or certain opportunities were not shared well....

    Advice to Management

Management should undergo training on leadership, I never knew where I stood because honest and critical feedback was not usually provided on a continuous basis even when I repeatedly requested it. The salaries were not competitive for the industry when I first started. Take a look at operational inefficiencies and address them head on.
