I have been working at ICF part-time

    Pros

ICF is a premier consulting organization that values people, is committed to sustainability, fairness, and work-life balance. The company's projects create opportunities to work on the leading challenges of our day.

    Cons

Consulting requires a tolerance for uncertainty, a flexible and can-do attitude, and a resilient and persistent work ethic. But ICF provides one of the more stable and sane work environments for consultants to grow and thrive in.

I worked at ICF full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People here are smart and nice. You can have a very good work relationship with your peers.
Some of the projects are cutting-edge and interesting. It will help you learn the market and grow quickly.

    Cons

    Low work-life balance.
    Lower income than industry average.
No to low bonus, no matter how hard you work.
No transparency in management decisions - you don't know why you get bonus or not, how they decide your raise, and why you get promoted or not.
No work appreciation - they take your hard work for granted.
Experiences highly depend on which smaller group you are in, aka, who is your manager.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to the management group, give them more training on how to manage. Have a better system on evaluating people, instead of using managers' subjective personal opinions.

I worked at ICF full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Internal customers are great, and very purposeful work. Depending on what group you land in, really depends on how good your situation will be.

    Cons

Contracts Leadership, at the VP level is very political, unprofessional and selfish. They don't focus on the issues at hand, and are only concerned about anyone going over their heads for actual action. Leadership doesn't listen to lower management or take their feedback seriously. The positions within the Contracts Department have a glass ceiling, and staff are consistently overworked. The contacts turnover in staffing is proof of this, along with the general morale. Also, there is constant change in policies and procedures for really no good reason, which further compounds frustration.

    Advice to Management

Look at the VP leadership more closely, and their interactions with staff and management style, this can help you better determine if this is the vision ICF executives have.
