    I worked at Integrated DNA Technologies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    IDT was a great place while it was privately owned by the founder. Unfortunately he had to bow out due to ill health and the company was sold. (Note Glassdoor currently considers Dr Walder to be the CEO, this is out of date, but I will rate the CEO as if Dr Walder was still there)

    IDT focused (and still does) on excellent quality product and is renowned throughout the world for this quality.

    I feel honored to have worked there for over a decade under some amazing managers

    Cons

    Quite a few of the senior and exec managment have retired. The transition to the new order has been rocky. Some of the managerial appointments have not been good.

    The transition was not handled well. Lots of promises regarding retention and personal career development that were repeatedly made by a succession of senior Execs were then not kept.

    There are parts of the company now including, I hear, quite a few sales reps that are not happy.

    Advice to Management

    Keep your promises.

    Pros

    Good health benefits. Company is growing as it is in the exciting genomics space.

    Cons

    Lack of employee development plans and support in career development. Negative atmosphere. Mgmt and department work in silos leading to blame game and high level of frustration. Pay and incentives can be below industry standard

    Advice to Management

    Create plans to support your employees in their own development not just what they can do to lighten your workload

    Disapproves of CEO

    I worked at Integrated DNA Technologies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    a few very competent employees (albeit with high turnover)

    Cons

    high accident rate, discards damaged workers without a shred of decency;
    rewards incompetents who schmooze well, which damages morale of real workers;
    major lies during "recruitment" process;
    failure to pay relocation expenses;
    changes pay & benefits without discussion;
    long history of sexual misconduct by clique of upper managers (porn over network, strip clubs, etc)

    Advice to Management

    Atone for past evils, and be honest with future employees.

    Pros

    Company has strong roots in it's business. People are friendly and work hard. They promote from within, leaving room to move around with in the company.

    Cons

    The job description for 2nd shift was not accurately describe to me during the interview. Never would have taken position if I had known some of the responsibilities assigned. I had asked specific questions about a portion of the position and was only given partial information about the job.

    Advice to Management

    Training needs to have a Standard Operations Procedure (SOP) for new employees in shipping. Current staff have too much on their plates to properly train someone effectively. Current staff are overloaded.

    Pros

    Company had very generous PTO policy and benefits. I worked in Custom Product Formulations and the job was varied and interesting with lots of opportunities to learn new processes and try out new equipment in the field.

    Cons

    Management in this department was ageist, racist and played favorites horribly. They were only interested in associating with coworkers who had children and were willing to gossip about everyone else. More than one person had very sensitive personal information that they shared with management out of necessity spread around to everyone in the lab. They tried to manipulate people into doing what they wanted but were terrible and obvious about it. HR did nothing to attempt to correct this, despite multiple people voicing complaints until they were threatened with legal action. They were more interested in keeping and promoting people who fit their warped personalities than people who did the work well. Despite their assurances that they wanted people in the lab to socialize, if those social events didn't involve them, the people involved were punished.

    Advice to Management

    Grow up.
