I have been working at Mapfre full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, good hours, decent pay. If you need anything, they take care of you. Their Ergo departmentales sure you are comfortable at your desk and provides you with anything that you need.

    Cons

The workload is unrealistic. You get at least 15-20 claims a day, on top of taking care of inbound/outbound calls, rentals, appraisals, tasks and reminders for each claim. You constantly have over 100 emails daily....and you're expected to have everything as current as the week your in. Working overtime should be to help you get ahead, not keep you from drowning.

    Advice to Management

Some supervisors are so miserable they never have a nice thing to say to their employees. And new employees at that. How do you expect people to work hard for you if you constantly bring them down? You need to give people confirmation that they don't (for lack of a better term) suck. Hence why there is a constant revolving door. You don't get paid enough to deal with the workload either.

I worked at Mapfre full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    OK benefits
    OK pay
    Clean building
    Plenty of parking
    OK tuition reimbursement
    Great feedback on reviews

    Cons

Growth opportunity - it's all who you know
Pay grades are embarrassing and do not even cover increase of medical, not to mention cost of living. I took home more 10 years ago than I do now.
Too much documentation , instead of working
Not all departments are created equally
Mapfre pays minimal, takes advantage of location, same job in Worcester is at least 10,000 more
    Technology is very poor

    Advice to Management

Really listen to your employees, just don't pacify and fix with a band-aid. A billion dollar company should have state of the art equipment. Don't treat us like another number and expect quality work. You get what you pay - this would be true to employees as well. New employees starting out with what dedicated employees are making that have been there for years. People talk, this brings down the company moral. Make things fair.

    Pros

Free coffee. Some of the people are okay to work with. The office is located in a nice setting. Free utensils.

    Cons

The management here is MILITANT. Female bosses even more so. Management is inconsistent. Policies and procedures are never clear or change without notice. The company kept getting negative survey results from the Great Place to Work and for good reason! Management is stuck in the 80s and fail to admit that without their employees, Mapfre would be nothing. They have downright refused to ever offer a bonus to employees! Claiming it's not in the budget, however management gets a nice bonus every year. (Oops, I bet you thought no one was supposed to know that!) Management is out of touch. If you like being micromanaged, then this is the place for you. You will be hounded if you are not logged into your phone by a certain time (even if you get no calls all day) , and you are not allowed to make up time if there is a snow storm. So if you come in late due to a snow storm, they will deduct that time out of your PTO and it goes against you as "unscheduled" even though you made an effort to show up. You cannot make up the time. The company likes to pretend they're on your side, but really they're not. All employee recognition programs and activities are employee sponsored. So if you want to reward your team mate for a job well done, don't go to management. Your unit will actually need to chip in and buy them a gift card. Mapfre is only interested in buying everyone pizza and bagels. The company hosts a service reward program but there's no actual 'reward'. It's a certificate with your name on it and the # of years you have been employed.

    Advice to Management

Do the world a favor and quit. Your cheapness is embarrassing.

I worked at Mapfre full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The department manager was very nice, but was also new.
    Pretty flexible with schedule.
    Decent benefits.

    Cons

This was not a production position, yet the manager always made underhanded comments about production expectations.

When asked for an expectation of what was considered "good" production, the answer was "the job doesn't really work that way." This is true, as underwriting may require a lot of research and review.

If the immediate supervisor had negative feedback, she hid behind the team to address it, saying "the team feels..." which created an acrimonious environment.

No clear processes. What was recommended to do one day, was not the same way something was processed for the same task the next. Very inefficient work environment.

I quit in less than six months.

    Advice to Management

Develop clear expectations and guidelines, improve morale, do not step on it when you know it's low. Develop your employees.

I worked at Mapfre full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Ok time off. Micro managed and the Columbus Ohio office doesnt have a clue and is afraid to take leadership. micro manager.
,they do not value your insight for change. The company will go nowhere and they are happy with that. No chance for advancement. Management treats their employees like they are nothing. No incentive except for a paycheck.

    Cons

Manager is obnoxious they lie they will talk about you in your face and behind it. I was in a training class of 11 and not even 6 months later more than 7 are gone. You sign up for a fulltime job but they pay 77.25 hrs every 2 weeks when it should be 80 hrs.. Although you work 80 hrs.

    Advice to Management

Unusual company they dont value your advice. Stop micro managing, value employees, give them motivation.

I worked at Mapfre full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Generous vacation time from the get go.

    Cons

Very numbers driven. Employees work as a whole is not taken into account and as a result brings down the moral of the team quickly. No company outings, no holiday parties, raises are minimal. If you want to work in the insurance field look at other options as you will make twice as much.

    Pros

This company promotes entrepreneurship and flexibility

    Cons

Lots of nepotism from the company's headquarters is Spain. In a nutshell, if you are a male Spanish national you will move up the ladder whatever your competence level, otherwise forget it.

    Advice to Management

Promote your staff based on competence rather than nationality or gender.
