I worked at MarkLogic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This was a place that started off great until it didn’t. The newly higher senior director of marketing came in and made changes without actually getting to know the staff. She needed to make swift changes to show her worth, which was uselessness and showed biases towards her favorites (all of a few weeks). I would not recommend this place to young or minority persons. Their culture is stuffy and controlling to the point of suffocation. Their tech is dying and they will never go public.

    Cons

Everything, everyone, everything and everyone there... they are a horrible organization to work for.

I have been working at MarkLogic full-time

    Pros

Have a solid database technology. Location is pretty good. Poorly talented people can survive by saying 'yes' to their boss.

    Cons

Since last year, the company hired some very medicore middle management lacking of leadership and deep technical knowledge. They did not know how to motivate capable engineers but play politics, listen to rumors and even slander some good and intelligent people. Also they did not give any good directions and visions for products but build bad micromanagement and useless meetings. Ironically, those people like flattering their boss and bragging their leadership and values. CEO, SPV, CPO and other senior executives should have open your eyes and listen to voices from different people. Those incapable manage should take accountbility for wrong and inplausible judgement.

    I worked at MarkLogic full-time

    Pros

Some good people still around - after surviving the many rounds of lay-off’s. Bright engineers - but led by CEO’s personal revenge mission against Oracle - while missing the whole NoSQL and cloud movement. Mongo and Elastic (search) have won. Free lunch once/week. Can’t really think of anything else.

    Cons

Leadership didn’t walk the talk when it came to listening to and protecting employees being exposed to inappropriate behavior. Desperate attempts to grow the revenue - to counter for fleeting customers - allow company to put up with harmful environment to staff (while charging customers in unnatural manners). In various cases, it was straight up harassment. Victims either kept quiet and got rewarded for it, or became targets if spoke up. So culture instilled fear in raising issues.

I worked at MarkLogic full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Among the next generation database players, MarkLogic is the only one that focuses on large enterprise customers. They address critical concerns that large are table-stakes for enterprise customers (security, multi-model, operational-transactional). I believe MarkLogic is the technical best in the industry.

    Cons

Every six to twelve months, senior leadership makes sweeping departmental layoffs (sales engineering, marketing, inside sales, operations, etc.). There's a very high rate of turnover in management/leadership that starts at the top, and it seems that they believe they can fire people until things get better. This uncertainty reverberates through the organization and communicates corporate immaturity to would-be customers. Ultimately, this chills sales and extends the sales cycle.

Thank you for the feedback. I do agree that our technology is amazing! As many of our enterprise customers make progress in their journey to the Cloud, it has necessitated organisational and process evolution. Changes such as these, do not occur often and are made to help MarkLogic better serve our customers.

I worked at MarkLogic full-time for less than a year

    Pros

MarkLogic has a phenomenal product and they invest in the employee. Their training program is very informative and detailed. The executive leadership are incredibly smart and personable. There are many smart and honest employees who work for MarkLogic. I enjoyed my conversations with Gary Bloom and found him to be inspirational. Adrian Carr, Joe Pasqua, David Gorbet, Ken Krupa and Chris Lindbaugh are all very hands on in the day to day operations of the company and are a pleasure to work with!

    Cons

Everyone in a company is part of the sales team. It is imperative the direct sales team understand and can recite the corporate pitch. A new employee should be given time to understand the company, the culture, the resources, the product and the company pitch. The expectation a non-salesperson would learn it in a week or be fired is ridiculous! Hearing it is one thing, Delivering it so that it does not sound memorized and be subjectivly questioned on all the technical jargon behind the presentation is nearly impossible when you have not worked with the product.

    Pros

Good product, growing company, flexible work hours, some really good people

    Cons

Remote workers are somewhat disconnected, and management doesn't really coordinate training. Emphasis is on billable hours regardless of employee qualification
