I have been working at Populus Group full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Populus Group is a great place to work from day one. I have been with the company for many years, across different departments, roles and life changes. The atmosphere and culture continues to be consistent in supporting my growth and family along the way. I am challenged to continue to grow and push myself outside of my comfort zone. I have been supported with balancing work and family. I have fostered lifelong friendships...

For me personally, our office in Troy, MI is far from where I live and the drive can be taunting but with the alternative work schedule it makes it a bit easier.

So glad to hear this! You hit on some key values for us: personal life comes before work, getting out of your comfort zone, and building great friendships. :) Thanks for taking the time to share!

I have been working at Populus Group full-time

    Pros

The culture and the people are definitely at the top. PG encourages you to develop relationships and ask questions not only to better understand the business, but also to get to those you work with all over the different offices. Also they allow you to build a career path for yourself. It starts with mastering your current role but they tell you explore different departments (shadows, smart lunches, etc.) and from there...

    Cons

Compensation can be a little tough especially working in high cost of living markets.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Populus Group full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

Populus Group is unlike any company I've worked for in the past. PG listens to and values the feedback of it's front-line employees. There is a ton of opportunity within PG if you're willing to put in the work. Aside from that, PG has some really cool perks like the "Treat Yo Self" fund, plentiful PTO, and a family first mentality.

    Cons

Populus Group has expectations that you will speak from the heart, work hard, and take initiative. If that's not the type of place you thrive in, this environment will not be for you.

    Advice to Management

Please continue to be selective about who we allow in our community!

  5. These are a group of terrible people.

      I worked at Populus Group

      Pros

      They give you a job.

      Cons

They fire you from that same job because of something on your background, which was already cleared up. They hired me because they desperately needed people for a few weeks then once they got on track let me go because of something they found in my background even though I had already passed the background check and was at work already for 3 weeks. Pull the rug right out from under you. DO NOT WORK FOR THESE HORRIBLE...

They also almost never answer the phone and don’t care what you have to say anyway.

I have been working at Populus Group full-time

      Pros

Those at the bottom live and breath the company's culture. Flexibility and ability to work from home. Some cool benefits.

      Cons

Preaches trust and candid conversations but don't believe it from the top down. Very low pay and hard to get a real raise. Says people are #1 but truly they only value the bottom dollar. People over worked and under appreciated. 'Leadership' and 'managers' doesn't listen and does its own thing. No real support in roles. Too many low performers & management puts most of their time into them.

      Advice to Management

Listen to the people doing all the work for once (and keep doing it)

I worked at Populus Group full-time for more than a year

      Pros

At the beginning of your employment, it will seem as if everyone in the company is supporting you

      Cons

In reality, your managers, whom you need support from the most, are not. The company has many employees that will reach out and help you if you know how to find them. In this specific Burlingame office on the payroll team, it is very unorganized and the managers do not actually manage. You are left to fend for yourself and they do not care if you sink or swim. You can manage many accounts and feel like you are drowning...

      Advice to Management

Stop tainting the Culture of Populus Group. Genuinely support your employees and HELP them. Do not write up or terminate an employee (especially over the phone) within two months because YOU don't know what you're doing either and are afraid it is going to show through your employee. When you reach out to HR to speak about your employee, make sure to include your shortcomings as well. I'd suggest getting some management...

      Pros

Great experience for those fresh out of college who are looking to gain work experience Good perks for those with families Opportunity to work from home

      Cons

Be ready to work long and hard hours Technology is outdated and clunky Even with work from home options, work-life balance is hard to achieve Little opportunity to grow Clients happiness is more important than employees well-being High turn-over rate due to lack of growth and morale

      Advice to Management

Focus more on employee happiness and self-development; listen to employees about workload and staffing concerns.

I have been working at Populus Group full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

PG has a unique culture and it’s true, it’s not for everybody! We value candor, transparency, and giving and receiving feedback (continuously) because we believe that’s the best way to build trust with our employees, customers and partners. I’ve been with PG over three years now and have gotten some of the most candid feedback I’ve received in my career (from both managers and peers). Yes it stunk at the time and was...

If you have thin skin or lack accountability you won’t be successful here. Truly a rewarding culture if you’re someone who takes ownership of themselves, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

      Advice to Management

Keep the transparency and candor. So important for leadership to continue to be examples for everyone else too. Keep walking our talk.
