Pros

- I haven't been laid off (yet). - I'm getting a paycheck. - Benefits are decent, though they are expensive. - New CEO said we could expect quarterly raises if we deserve it, but we'll see... - Just restructured a loan from the acquisition (which is apparently a good thing, even though it tanked our stock price AGAIN). - The end.

Cons

- Seemingly constant layoffs for the past year with no end in sight. - New CEO who not only has zero strategy (other than not backfilling people to drive costs down, and telling everyone that we he doesn't want us here if we're not motivated right now) or goals (he talked about the importance of goal setting in the all hands, then when asked a question about his goals, he admitted he didn't have any!), but he doesn't barely communicate at all. Nearly half our C-suite has left and there's not been a word about it from him. - Sierra acquisition has absolutely killed our stock value. - We're losing good talent everywhere - Cost cuts are the only thing we seem to be doing to make our numbers, when it seems like every time I turn around, there's another 10 people gone in our sales team. - EVERYONE is paranoid about their jobs and I don't know one person who isn't actively looking to leave.

Pros

It was a pleasure and best experience working with a brilliant group of people, working on leading edge projects. We had a strong team and was able to accomplish a lot even with having a small group and limited resources even having the leadership giving limited funding.

Cons

Upper management is not knowledgeable with the technology and market of the company they acquire, Apparently every acquired company are filled with leadership people personally close to Semtech's head even if their not experts on that technology space. Bottom line, the net effect is it turns a leading edge business to the least in their space. Very short term outlook and is not calibrated for the long haul. Forces employees to take the accrued vacations while management get's bonuses and project deadlines are not re-adjusted to required vacation forcing people to work on their vacation days.

Pros

Decent compensation package but only with equity offerings that vest over 4 years. The company is cash heavy so there are low liquidity concerns.

Cons

The company's segment is very competitive. With razor thin margins and constant need to reduce margins, the company tends to lag in the planning arena and only has knee jerk reactions when business needs change. First instinct is to lay off people with almost no accountability OR reduction of force at the top levels. Oddly enough, the top level execs (primarily those that have been with the company for a while) are the reason was declines or losses but they are not let go. It is completely bizarre how such senior 'adults' act like elementary school children and point blame at other teams and their own staff. It is insanely unprofessional and there's just no accountability where there needs to be. The talent pool is mediocre at best. If you think you will learn anything and enhance your career, you are dreaming. In fact, you will come out dumber then when you went in. Processes are dated, management is resistant to change anything, and most areas were 'enhanced' at some point by less then qualified people so you will catch errors and someone will explain a work around (completely disregarding the root cause) so you will spend 8 hours on a 30 minute task. The location doesn't help either. Good luck trying to hire decent talent there and retaining them. Smart people leave as soon as they realize what's going on here. Some folks are extremely deceitful, which is probably why they lasted this long. If you catch on to their lie, run, because your days would be limited especially if you are not one to play along.
