    Pros

None... they keep trying to cut down your comissions. No room to advance and its based on favoritism.

    Cons

If you do not reach the goal for 2 months in a row, theres possibility they might let you go.

    Advice to Management

Change in comission structure and salary, then you wont have to deal with employees resinging.

    Pros

Small company. Good people to work with. Good place to gain experience and go elsewhere and make more money.

    Cons

Out of touch upper management. Lots of talk about the shareholders. Lots of bonuses and stocks for upper management, yet the pay is for its employees actually doing the work is below industry competitors.

    Advice to Management

Lots of turnover. Time to wake up.

I have been working at Shentel full-time

    Pros

    Fair benefits options
    Charitable contribution matching

    Cons

Takes a long time to make a decision
Not using available technology for more everyday efficiency
"Good ole boys club" style of upper management
    Does not allow remote working/telecommute

    Advice to Management

Step into the 21st century. Empower supervisors and managers to make a decision without needing to check with an executive first. Allow employees to work from home in extenuating circumstances rather than forcing them to stop work completely for a day and use PTO. Implement a vigorous Retail Audit system to discourage Fraud in the stores. These are just a few examples of simple changes that can be made to make work more efficient, life better for employees, and improve the overall health of the company. Leaving as soon as I can.

I worked at Shentel full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Solid company, financially stable and well grounded. The people that work there are awesome to work with. They are on a upward trajectory for growth and it has a great future.

    Cons

Upper management does not trust its employees to make decisions, every decision has to be run up the ladder because they don't trust their employees to make the right ones. This includes minor ones that require VP approval causing unneeded delays. Don't look to advance in your career unless you have a 4 year degree, they will not promote you to any kind of management role unless you have that magic piece of paper. They seem to always want to take the cheapest route on every business opportunity, they won't risk spending a little extra capital to extend the fiber to take advantage of a larger business opportunity in the future.

    Advice to Management

Allow managers and employees the freedom to fail and succeed, the culture is one of fear that making the wrong decision will result in reprisal. Also they need to recognize when to build fiber that will result in more business and take the risk and build. Stop using the "we are a conservative company" excuse, that's just a nice way of saying "we are cheap".

    Pros

Workplace Culture, Senior Management that cares, development opportunities, 401k is outstanding, job security

    Cons

Overall compensation, unobtainable quotas at the store level make commission goals seem light years away

    Advice to Management

Different regions need different compensation packages to lower attrition in higher populated areas. Harrisburg, PA is not the same as Bluefield, WV.

I worked at Shentel (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A growing company that helps people in the valley work close to home for reasonable pay. Forward looking while remembering its valley roots.

    Cons

No enough interaction between departments that could lower the cost of doing business. Need people whose job it is to coordinate between all the arms of the company for a more cohesive organization

    Advice to Management

Listen to everyone, Hire from within to promote company loyalty. Remember to recognize employer loyalty, not just longevity, as well as accomplishments. People who work day to day to keep the machine running smoothly, without hiccoughs.

I have been working at Shentel full-time

    Pros

The job and atmosphere at the company is always something that benefits, as it is a company that is always looking to help out the rural areas the mode is always improvements.

    Cons

Its a large company that most of the time views itself as a small business.

    Advice to Management

Grow and adapt a bit more, especially to the pay of most of your employees. In the area yes they are competitive, but we also live in the middle of no where.
