    Cons

QA staff gets moved from project to project fairly frequently, making it difficult to become an expert in a single product

I worked at Sony Electronics full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

401k matching, Health, optional basic Vision & Dental, good perks especially at end of year, great camaraderie with locals, discounted Sony products, fairly stable.

    Cons

There are basically two worker strata: Japanese expatriates with 10x the benefits, their own HR department and zero motivation to go back to Japan, so it's usual to see senior figures hanging around in different assignments for up to 10 years, if they have friends in high places. The other stratum is comprised of locals, subject to a different set of rules and USA HR practices. Certain professional opportunities are limited to Japanese expatriates too, so you may find that you've reached your department/division ceiling, and the only option might be to move laterally. You might get lucky and score a good Japanese boss who'll empower and encourage you, but if you're not in one of the key and profitable consumer electronic or video game categories, you're likely out of luck, working harder, with much lower resources and struggling to keep up with demands and pressure from Tokyo HQ.

    Advice to Management

Make expatriate assignments no longer than 3 years with very few exceptions. Base a portion of expatriates' performance assessments on a timely and successful transition process with their successors, so one doesn't leave a position without even meeting (or barely so) the next-in-line and his/her staff.

I worked at Sony Electronics full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great Company to work with, but the economical situations have changed so they have a lot of people let go

    Cons

Too Much Pressure to hit Targets, lot of weekly reports to HQ which has been time consuming, so most of the time was spent on Reports rather than meeting customers

    Advice to Management

I don't need a Job I need a Career. I can find a Job tomorrow but if I am not happy doing what I am doing and using my expertise, I wont be happy

I worked at Sony Electronics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Very structured organization. Everyone's roles are very clearly defined. Movement in the company is possible, you just need to prove yourself. For the most part personalities gel well.

    Cons

It is a very top down organization. Whatever management in Japan says to do everyone does without question. There's no push back or room for questioning no matter how asinine the request is.
