We're honored to be named a Healthcare Hero of Community Outreach (Organization) by The Daily Record for our work addressing food insecurity in our region. To date, our Community Food Relief Program has donated over 130,000 meals to those in need. We’re investing in the economic health of our region by funding up to $2.2M to support small businesses and nonprofits across Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Northern Virginia. In this first round of economic inclusion grant funding, 15 organizations will receive funds to support their business growth impacting the overall health of the communities they serve. These investments build on our commitment to advancing social support, providing educational opportunities and addressing the barriers to achieving a healthy community.

In August, we issued a requirement for every member of our workforce and Board of Directors to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or acquire a medical or religious exemption. We developed a case study to share our experiences, lessons and the decisions we’ve made. You’re invited to use the insights and resources as you consider your own vaccine requirement. Since the pandemic began, Baltimore has fared far better than expected when compared to similar areas. This is thanks to the partnership that CareFirst and leaders from the city and state government, healthcare institutions, local nonprofits and trusted community groups. “We were able to within a week and half or so spin off a structure that was rich with resources in terms of data and communication and assets and clinical support, all done in a manner that was extraordinarily smooth at a time that was chaotic, not just in Baltimore, but in the country and the world,” said Maria Tildon, our executive vice president of public policy and government affairs.
