In a new Government Technology article, Pulaski County, Ark. shares how NIC Arkansas helped implement alternative payment solutions in response to the pandemic forcing offices to close. The county needed a solution for collecting taxes that was accessible for all and reached out to its “go-to vendor,” NIC Arkansas who launched CheckFreePay for government from Fiserv. “We didn’t want a resident or citizen who was unbanked or underbanked to have to go to a drugstore or other retailer to purchase a prepaid card just to go online and transact with their government,” said Sloane Wright, NIC Vice President of Payments.

NIC’s Insurance Filings division today announced two new personal auto forms are available for filing to the Washington State Department of Licensing. The forms can be generated and filed instantly online by insurance companies and agencies. “We are thrilled to expand the filing services available to our users with clients licensed in Washington state,” said Laura Johnson, General Manager of NIC Insurance Filings. “Now, personal auto insurers can join commercial insurers in experiencing the benefits of NIC Insurance Filings’ instant online process for Washington filings.”
NIC and the State of South Carolina recently opened five new TourHealth COVID-19 testing sites in Columbia, Conway, Oconee County, Pickens County and Spartanburg for a total of 12 locations across the state offering free and painless testing. The Alabama Secretary of State has expanded its online business services suite to accept all business filings and dissolutions from all Alabama counties. Using the electronic filing portal, hosted and maintained by NIC Alabama, businesses can file directly with the Secretary of State’s office, eliminating the extra step of filing at a county probate office. “Our office is proud to offer this one-stop shop for business owners in coordination with NIC Alabama,” said Alabama Secretary of State John Merrill. “As we continue to navigate these difficult times, we are committed to providing a more efficient, streamlined process that further supports the business community.”
NIC Idaho and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare are working on a project to allow hospitals to order newborn screening kits online, a critical service for public health and neonatal departments across the state. The newborn screening lab kits identify conditions that can affect a child’s long-term health or survival. Early detection, diagnosis and intervention are crucial for newborns. With the help of these kits, Idaho’s medical professionals can help children across the state.
