In an article for Government Technology, Ben Miller features NIC’s new collaboration with Fiserv, offering in-person cash payments for government services via CheckFreePay. Pulaski County, Ark., is the first of several governments to utilize the new solution. “Obviously because of the COVID situation we don’t have any locations open to the public,” said Bentley Hovis, Deputy Chief of the Pulaski County Treasurer’s Office, earlier in 2020. “This provided us with a way (to take those payments).”
In a new article for the Kansas City Business Journal, Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Doug Rogers discusses new solutions developed to help our government partners respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March, NIC has launched TourHealth, our COVID-19 testing solution; cash payments for government business using CheckFreePay through a partnership with Fiserv; and TeleGov, a scheduling tool for citizens to schedule appointments with government offices. “As we look to the future, I couldn’t be more excited for what the possibilities are,” Rogers said. “The work that we’ve done today is only laying the groundwork for more advanced digital services for how we can make it easier for people to navigate across agencies.”
The Alabama Department of Revenue (ADOR) is now accepting online appointments for a variety of services through TeleGov, a new online scheduling tool built through a collaboration with NIC and Microsoft. The appointment scheduling system, developed for the State by NIC Alabama, allows the ADOR to continue offering critical services to Alabama citizens while complying with state health and safety measures. “As the department adapted to new realities in light of the coronavirus pandemic, it became clear that we needed to offer taxpayers more ways to safely contract and work with us to answer their questions and resolve their issues,” said a spokesperson for ADOR. “The online appointment scheduling system is and will continue to be a valuable tool to ensure we are accessible to the taxpaying public.” Accessible from multiple platforms like mobile, Alabamans can schedule appointments for services such as making payments, tax return assistance, title appointments and many more.
With another round of holiday travel and gatherings, health officials are urging widespread testing to identify positive cases and slow the spread of COVID-19, the virus that infected more than 4 million Americans in November alone. In an article for Government Technology, NIC Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives Doug Rogers shares how communities can still launch widespread testing programs and provides tips on preparing for vaccine deployment.
NIC and the State of Kansas launched TourHealth COVID-19 testing in Eastern Kansas. New free testing sites are now open seven days a week in Olathe and Leavenworth, Kan. TourHealth testing is also offered in the Northwest Kansas cities of Colby, Goodland, Hays and Russell. “As Kansas’ digital government solutions partner for nearly 30 years and a company headquartered in the state, we are dedicated to helping the state keep residents safe during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond,” said Doug Rogers, Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives for NIC. “TourHealth is directly aligned with NIC’s mission of making essential government services, in this case vital coronavirus testing, more accessible for people across the state of Kansas and the country.” Find the location nearest you and schedule an appointment at www.tourhealth.com.
TourHealth is a scalable COVID-19 testing and vaccine solution testing deployed in Florida, South Carolina, Kansas and Mississippi. Through a collaboration between NIC, Impact Health and Next Marketing, the solution offers a combined 80 years of industry-leading experience and provides all the logistics, secure technology and clinical expertise to make coordinating testing and vaccine administration easy and seamless for communities.
NIC, in collaboration with Fiserv, is offering a new cash payment solution called CheckFreePay. The solution allows unbanked and underbanked citizens to pay for government services using cash at more than 30,000 CheckFreePay retailers across the country. The agent locations collect the cash payments from validated payers, remit the funds directly to the state then provide the payment reconciliation information to NIC’s industry-leading payment platform. “CheckFreePay gives citizens a convenient, easy way to make safe and secure tax payments during COVID-19 and beyond,” said Harry Herington, NIC CEO and Chairman of the Board. “This solution, and our valued collaboration with Fiserv, is what NIC is all about – helping our government partners provide essential services. Since this pandemic began, we have been laser focused on offering options like CheckFreePay that not only connect residents to government but do so in a way that keeps everyone safe and healthy.”
NIC Vermont and the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife are pleased to launch the Vermont Outdoors mobile application. “Vermont Outdoors is an exciting new endeavor to provide citizens and visitors with a tool to safely explore the many recreational activities our state provides,” said Louis Porter, Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife. “With this new application, we are providing an accessible platform of useful information in both online and offline formats to help users locate and safely participate in outdoor recreational activities.” Since the app’s initial launch, Vermont Outdoors has more than 4,600 downloads. Congratulations to the State of Arkansas on receiving the Citizen Centric award in the Digital States Survey 2020! Arkansas was one of only three states to be recognized for its focus on providing mobile and digital services that engage individuals and businesses in government interactions. “We’re very honored to be recognized for our continued efforts to use technology to improve delivery of services to Arkansans,” said Amy Fecher, Secretary of Transformation and Shared Services. “With more than 68% of citizens accessing state websites from mobile devices, it is important that we continue to find more ways to connect government to the public using online services.” Through its partnership with NIC Arkansas, the State of Arkansas has a library of more than 1,000 digital government solutions and cloud-native platforms for agencies and local government entities to benefit from and use to connect with individuals.
