As we continue to recognize Black Maternal Health Week, we share insight from Dr. Regina Adair, Regional Medical Director, OB/GYN Hospitalist, about the importance of recognizing and addressing the disparities in healthcare for Black women. Dr. Adair says, “There have been many studies that have shown that women of color get better care with people that look like that. I believe that is because they are understood by their caregiver.” Watch her full message about the importance of recognizing #BMHW23 here.
The demand for outpatient surgery skyrocketed in the last several decades. With the expansion of free-standing surgery centers, the need for outpatient anesthesia services has likewise grown. Dr. Andrei Cernea, Facility Medical Director, Anesthesia, says the success of ASC is exemplified through both satisfied patients and satisfied surgeons and facilities. “We’ve had significant growth once we’ve dedicated ourselves to the ASC space, and we are continuously asked to evaluate facilities that are being served by other groups as the surgeon environment consolidates as well,” Dr. Cernea says. Watch his full message about the success of ASC here.
April is Celebrate Diversity Month, offering an opportunity to recognize and champion the diversity surrounding us. In this blog post, Debra Lacy, TeamHealth’s new Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, shares the significance of celebrating our differences and how this enables us opportunities to educate, learn, innovate and collaborate. She says, “I celebrate diversity because I know firsthand the power of relationships that honor and respect diversity – in how we live, how we think, how we work, how we play and our experiences throughout our multi-faceted lives.”
Today we recognize the start of Black Maternal Health Week. This week offers a time to celebrate Black maternity but also raise awareness around the persistent racial and gendered gaps in medical care. According to the CDC, Black women are three times more likely to die due to pregnancy-related causes than White women. Research shows more than 80% of pregnancy-related deaths in the U.S. are preventable. As we recognize the start of #BMHW23, we share this podcast episode featuring a discussion on implicit bias and how it can impact care delivery and patient outcomes. In this #BeyondClinicalMedicine episode guest host Brian Brown, MBA, Senior Clinical Practice Manager, Post-Acute Care, speaks with Dr. Khadeja Haye, National Medical Director, Acute Hospitalist Services and OB/GYN Hospitalist Services, about addressing biases and disparities in maternal care.

We’re celebrating our organization’s commitment to diversity by sharing moments from the 10th annual dinner event with members of the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE). The dinner began in 2011, as a way to gather senior hospital and health system executives from across the country who share similar values of advancing healthcare for diverse groups and underserved communities. NAHSE and TeamHealth are dedicated to encouraging diversity within the healthcare industry. Rex Everett, Co-Chair of the Black Cultural Resource Group said of the event, “Our collaboration with NASHE champions a culture of acceptance and promotes inclusion within the healthcare industry. Events like these offer opportunities to recognize how the work we do collectively impacts clinicians and administrators at all levels.”
