Company Updates

  • If there’s one thing that 2020 has taught many of us, it’s the value of having mind-space to deal with the unexpected. And at Thomson Reuters, we strive to place increased long-term focus on mental health and the overall health of our people #workingatTR. So today, we announced that our associates will be given a mental health day off on October 9. This will become a permanent company holiday, taking place around the World Health Organization’s World Mental Health Day each year. Learn more:

"As a gay, cisgender man, it's interesting to look at PRIDE month and reflect on what it means to me. My sexuality is part of me; it doesn't define who I am, but is certainly a fundamental part. As a journalist for Openly, I am proud to cover the underreported stories from around the world affecting the LGBT+ community." #BeYouAtTR Meet Hugo, LGBT+ Editor, Thomson Reuters Foundation, London #WorkingAtTR

"Born and raised in China, I moved to New York as a first-generation immigrant. I’m proud of my identity and hope that people will learn more about the rich history of Asian countries, and the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) history in the US. Asia is a vibrant region that is reshaping the future of our global economy. We can all do our part by learning and being an ally to the AAPI community. We recently had a CEO listening session with senior leadership where the members of our Asian Affinity Network (AAN) shared powerful personal stories about the rise of anti-Asian violence and the underrepresentation of Asian employees in leadership positions. Our leaders showed their commitment to diversity and inclusion starting with the CEO listening sessions, and reacting with strong support and immediate action. We appreciate the forum to make our voices heard. As Tom Kim, AAN Executive Sponsor wrote: “We belong here and we have a voice." #BeYouAtTR Meet Hannah, Senior Manager, Business Development and Strategy, NY #WorkingAtTR

"What I appreciate about our work culture is the respect and commitment to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of employees. Playing the piano and composing music improves my mental health and allows me to work with vitality. It can be difficult balancing my professional life with being a musician, but my career at Thomson Reuters gives me the work-life flexibility I need to pursue my interests which ultimately improves my overall wellbeing. More than that, I feel supported as the unique individual I am inside and outside of the (virtual) office." #BeYouAtTR Meet Kaoru, Proposition Lead - OneSource Global Trade, Tokyo #WorkingAtTR

"What I like most about our Asian Affinity Network (AAN) is finding shared experiences with colleagues on other teams and feeling like I'm part of a community. As part of the AAN - New York chapter, I’ve been busy planning events for Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month (AAPIHM). I’m especially excited for our panel discussion on May 26 about the role the media has in its coverage in the rise of anti-Asian violence. One of the panelists will be Helen Zia, who is an incredibly inspiring activist and journalist. AAPIHM is a great time to appreciate all the contributions from Asians, learn about the issues that affect Asian Americans, such as microaggressions in the workplace or the rise in hate incidents during the pandemic, and discuss ways to be good allies. While the issues impacting the Asian community can be difficult to talk about, the more we can communicate with each other the more we can grow as people and continue fostering inclusion." #BeYouAtTR Meet Priscilla, Senior Associate Editor, Practical Law, New York #WorkingAtTR

"All too often, as a woman in the field of technology, I’ve been the only woman in a room full of men. As a woman technologist, I’m definitely in the minority. The more senior I get, the more of a minority I’m in, and the more of a problem I realize that this is. Without women getting into careers in technology, we are missing critical voices at the table where decisions are made and problems are solved. I lead the architecture for Order to Cash and Finance, and my team is at the very core of the Change Program that Thomson Reuters is embarking on. We are moving from being a holding to an operating company, and putting the customer experience at the heart of everything we do... We’re recruiting much more than any time I remember, and front of mind is how important it is to have a diverse mindset when implementing new solutions. A career in technology is challenging and exciting, and I want more women to join our team and have the opportunities I've had at Thomson Reuters." #BeYouAtTR Meet Effie, Senior Enterprise Architect #WorkingAtTR

"First and foremost, I am a Muslim. My faith is more than just a belief – it is a way of life. It impacts the choices that I make and how I conduct myself. Monday marked the first day of Ramadan; the beginning of fasting, deep spiritual discipline, and coming together as a community. After welcoming our twin girls during the global pandemic, we are celebrating Ramadan for the first time as a family of four. Every year we rotate around the homes for Iftar (breaking of the fast) which creates priceless memories as we indulge in various cuisines such as dates from Arabia for starters, soups of all kinds for the mains, and samosas as sides from South Asia. We also tend to “overcook” so we can share with our neighbors. By the end of the month, I feel I have learned something new about myself, grown spiritually, and created a healthy habit for the rest of the year to come." #BeYouAtTR Meet Dulal, an HR Consultant, in London. Check out how our employees are welcoming Ramadan this year here:
