Last week, the Yext India office came alive with the vibrant spirit of Diwali Dhamaka, India's most cherished festival! During Diwali, homes sparkle with lanterns and flowers, and families unite over delicious food and sweets, symbolizing the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil. To honor the occasion, Yexters added a touch of tradition to our workplace, dressing in beautiful traditional Indian attire. The team enjoyed a feast of Indian delicacies for lunch, followed by fun activities, including Diya painting, a spirited Diwali quiz, and a sweet Ladoo competition that added a dash of friendly rivalry. Yext also gifted each employee a special Diwali hamper as a heartfelt gesture of gratitude. 🪔 🌼

October was National Work and Family Month, a time to reflect on the importance of workplaces that empower employees to chase their career dreams and savor family moments. To celebrate, we reached out to members of our Parents & Caregivers ERG to hear how Yext has positively impacted their work-life balance. Check out what they had to say ⬇️ “As a mother of twins, work flexibility is particularly important in my life. The work environment created at Yext, where I can thrive both personally and professionally, is nothing short of amazing. Thank you for pushing me to be my best and for recognizing the importance of family commitments.” - Crystal Luo. Senior Director, Revenue Accounting "Yext has greatly impacted my ability to show up for my colleagues and family with our flexible remote work and a company culture that exercises a healthy work-life balance. After having my daughter, I felt so supported by my manager and colleagues to adjust to my new normal as a mom of two and find a routine that worked best for me." - Adrienne Harris. UI Designer “I worked with Yext before I had my family and always knew it was an amazing place to work, but since having my children, I couldn't be more grateful for the support that the company has shown. It's so important to be able to balance both worlds and feel this reinforced within the leaders, this is shown consistently within our wider business culture.” - Amanda Watton. Senior Manager, Recruiting
Over the weekend, our Employee Resource Group (ERG), Equip, participated in the 2023 Out of the Darkness Community NYC Walk, sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). These walks are held nationwide, uniting those directly affected by suicide and its supporters to combat the stigma surrounding mental health issues and raise funds for research, education, and suicide prevention programs. Yext employees, joined by friends, family, and even their furry companions, walked 3 miles through NYC's Seaport District to show their support. When asked about the significance of organizing a Yext team for this event, Nick Tan said, "Years ago, after losing a close friend to suicide, I found meaning and personal growth through this tragedy. Creating a supportive community for those with similar experiences is a powerful way to help others facing similar challenges and find healing through shared understanding and support." Equip has committed to matching the funds raised by the team, effectively doubling their impact in the fight against suicide, and they remain dedicated to participating in this event for years to come. 💙💜

Our San Francisco team recently came together to volunteer at the SF-Marin Food Bank! This small but mighty team assembled 600 bags of fresh produce, each weighing around 25 lbs, for delivery to low-income seniors, homebound elders, families with young children, and individuals with disabilities. In a day, SF-Marin Foodbank can deliver anywhere from 1,600 to 1,900 bags of food to those in need, and we're proud to have contributed to this incredible cause. 💚

This week's #InternSpotlight is Daniel Choi! Daniel is interning as a Software Engineer in our Washington, D.C. office but will soon return to the University of Maryland, where he studies computer science. He has worked on various tasks and projects throughout the summer, including developing new product features, debugging, and system maintenance. One of the exciting projects that his team has been working on involves elevating the capabilities of "Document Search" by implementing vector embeddings and databases. This innovative approach goes beyond traditional keyword searches by enabling more comprehensive text analysis. He has been instrumental in bridging the communication between Search servers and Yext Content, enabling real-time updates on Search's databases. Daniel's Internship Advice ✏️ “Keep a notebook handy to take notes for when asking questions. At the beginning of my internship, I asked my coworkers and mentors a ton of questions but didn’t take write down their responses, resulting in me having to ask similar questions later on. Since then, I’ve been more diligent about taking notes, and it’s been extremely helpful for referencing past discussions.” Thank you, Daniel, for sharing your advice and outstanding contributions this summer!
Meet this week's #InternSpotlight Alexis Huang. Alexis successfully wrapped up her software engineer internship at our headquarters in NYC🗽 last week. As she heads back to MIT to finish pursuing a BS in electrical engineering and computer science, we want to celebrate her for her contributions. Throughout the summer, Alexis worked on various projects to enhance developers’ daily journeys. From crafting a command line tool to prioritize critical builds in our CI (continuous integration) system to designing a tool simplifying re-runs of failed builds, she's been a force of innovation. When we asked her about the most valuable lesson from her Yext internship, she shared, “I've learned that understanding existing code holds as much weight as writing new code, and when in doubt, my teammates are always there to guide me in the right direction.” We congratulate Alexis on her achievements and wish her the best of luck in her pursuit of graduation! 🎓 #LifeatYext
