What is paid time off like at Harris Teeter?

Pros

Their overall benefits are favorable, including insurance, 401K, paid time off, and bi-annual profit sharing bonus.

Cons

I find communication as a whole to be seriously lacking. I believe that the company's poor employee retention speaks for itself.

Advice to Management

Management should be better trained in communicating with employees on business and personal levels. Associate concerns are often left unaddressed and it seems to be a universal attitude that rather than creating a "team" workplace, everyone is expendable.

Does Harris Teeter offer massages?

Pros

With a comfortable atmosphere and generally kind customers, it was an alright place to go back to every day. My coworkers were nice people and deserved better.

Cons

Not a single person in a leadership position knew how to do my job. As we hemorrhaged employees, no manager could assist in any way other than running a cash register with no knowledge of Starbucks terminology. I quickly went from part timer, to part timer working full time hours, to finally full time employee, but by then I was basically managing the whole department without the pay or respect to match. I had to work repeated split shifts starting sometimes at 5:30 AM, going home to sleep from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, and going back in at 4:30 PM to close at 8:00 PM. At one point we had 3 people to run a department for 14 hours a day 7 days a week, with 1 employee being a highschooler that could only work very limited hours. My manager chased off every new hire before I could finish training them, as he racked up complaint after complaint from customer and employee alike, all while the higher ups and corporate turned a blind eye. Compared to a real Starbucks, we made less money, got no free food or drinks, weren't allowed to take tips, and had to try to abide both Harris Teeter and Starbucks policies, of which there were many conflicts.

Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and your customers. If everyone is complaining about a single person, that person is likely a very big problem.
