What is the salary like at Safeway?

The occasional free bakery snacks, good coworkers.

Management is awful, there is not room to have a pay raise or a better position at the company, zero benefits, little choices for time off, pressured into extra shifts, pressured into filling in at different areas in the store such as grocery and deli, minimum wage even after working for 5 years.

Union is overbearing with the dues and the benefits are not worth it. There's almost no room for vertical growth and the raise structure does not compensate for changes to minimum wage that are so frequent in MD. Store management is inconsistent in quality, with some managers being outstanding and others borderline incompetent.
