      Pros

Only pros to the job is people you meet along the way, the benefits and the home office money.

      Cons

Where to even start. First of all this is not a ‘family’ oriented job, they don’t care about sick kids having to pick them up from school none of it. Your managers will be little you to the point of telling you that you are trash and a waste of time. Territories you get depend if you do really good or not, if you get a pip there’s no saving you just give up that defeat because that next territory you get will be full of disconnected numbers or people that truly dislike Yelp. Started this job in a great mental state and the last 3 months, I was waking up wishing the computer didn’t work or the internet was out because of the anxiety I had about the micromanaging and being yelled at my business owners. KPIs are nearly impossible when you can’t get a human on a phone but their ‘magical’ saying is one call can change it all and control your controlables. Don’t get sucked into drinking the koolaid for this company, they don’t care about you they just want you to blackmail and force these small biz owners into using their products that don’t even work out of the 90 biz I got advertising while working here 1 actually had great success.. commission is so hard to reach when they constantly give a biz owner $300 upfront credits after you pitch or the go into ads looking themselves which then drops your commission down to a little crumb. I could go on for days if you read this far don’t take the offer.

      Pros

The starting base salary is low, but the uncapped commission is very generous. Learning how to be "authentic" in tone and conversations is the key to closing deals with this demographic of clients. This requires extra effort from the AE to strengthen product knowledge and go above and beyond to strengthen their own skills through numerous resources and taking the initiative to learn how to close. The product sells itself... Yes, it is a cold calling position where you get a multitude of different emotional responses from business owners at yelp. They provide you with so much content and trainings to work with you. Selling Yelp ads is not an easy job, but with hard work and consistency, you will hit 6 figures before your year mark. Self promotion program ensures that hard work is rewarded and the time frame is completely dependent on the AE. Great culture with amazing perks and benefits! Yelp definitely rips off the sales goose bumps to layer new thicker skin. So, if you are a little sensitive or take things personally, then this wouldn't be the right position for you.

      Cons

Needs to hire more translators to offer solutions to business owners who don't speak english in order to keep practices ethical and fair. Yelp is unbiased and positions the platform as a self serve platform used to help business owners gain exposure and increase business. However, it is unfair to keep that same stance with business owners that simply cannot speak english and have no assistance when calling into Yelp or authority over their page.

Good Company but Sales Dept. is a Grind

      Pros

Amazing company values that they really try to live by, but some departments do far better than others. Really great benefits, Insurance is BCBS of California with PPO and HSA options, offer infertility care, mental health resources with coaching and therapy sessions on the company, quarterly care boxes, office set up stipend, and monthly wellness stipend. If you are able to stick it out and hang around past 1yr, the pay goes up with promotions and your commission potential does as well. There are many who do very well here. 100% remote work environment, you can work from anywhere. You will gain great sales acumen or sharpen your skills. Job is phone based, no video calls.

      Cons

Growing into management or other departments is very limited and takes a lot of time and effort and the system doesn't necessarily promote those who would be best suited for management because it is influenced by being a high performer. That said there are really terrible sales managers who should stick to being a sales rep, but there are also some really incredible managers if you are fortunate enough to land on one's team. Not a lot of personal coaching to develop your workforce beyond the department they are in. Also not a lot of focus on individual strengths. Due to being a remote environment it is hard to build relationships and can feel like you are only a number to the company, especially in sales. They cycle through people a lot. Turnover is high, even for sales. They could improve on their accommodating for those with chronic conditions, its either take leave or get better. Which is not really possible when dealing with chronic health issues. Burnout is a very real part of the job. There is also a lot of toxic tendencies from leadership to just ignore that and to just "push past it". Metrics are high and monitored like a hawk. Numbers are a focus for sure which again makes you feel like that is all you are to the company. Micromanaging does occur, and the extent depends on your manager and director. No department conferences nationally or regionally. Very odd for a sales org to not do that.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your thorough and honest feedback with us. We are glad to hear that you are having an overall great experience as an Account Executive on our team. With that being said, we do understand that the AE role is one of the more challenging here at Yelp. One challenge that you mentioned was sometimes feeling micromanaged in your role. Here at Yelp, our management style takes a very hands-on approach, and to some this may feel like micromanagement. However, the goal of this leadership style is for managers to provide ample support to their sales teams as they learn new skills and practice new tactics. Sometimes that can look like various one-on-one conversations throughout the day, and setting sales quotas that encourage people to continually improve. In addition, we strive to create a positive and consistent leadership experience across the board, so folks interested in leadership must go through two different programs before being selected to become people leaders. The Manager Development Program (MDP) is a classroom-based curriculum designed to teach the fundamentals of the manager role. Candidates who successfully pass MDP then need to earn a spot in our Coaching Development Program (CDP). This is a 3-month, on-the-job training. After candidates show they can coach and operate according to our standards, they can apply to be a manager. Thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are thankful to have you on the team and appreciate all of your hard work!

micro management, low pay, terrible commission structure, you will burn yourself out making 100 dials a day with no financial gain to show for. managers don't care about stealing money from business owners who clearly won't get an ROI either. money hungry company who works employees likes slaves and pay them crap. oh and the business owners actually HATE yelp because we harass them so much, its mandatory to call at least 2/3x a week.

Thank you for your feedback. We're glad you appreciated our remote work model and benefits, but we're sorry to hear about your frustrations with management and the high volume of required outreach. Our management style at Yelp is very hands-on, and to some this may feel like micromanagement. However, our goal with this leadership strategy is to give ample support for our sales team while they learn new sales skills and practice new tactics. This sometimes includes things like dropping in on calls to assist with closing deals or managers having team check-ins multiple times per day to ensure everyone is on-track to achieve their goals. We know the Account Executive role can be challenging, and we strive to be transparent about expectations and rewards during the interview process. Thank you for your time with us, and wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
