      Corporate Communications Manager Interview

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CDW

      Interview

Interview process was very organized and structured. Each interview (approx. 3-4) built on the other with very little duplication. Opportunity to get a good sense of the job responsibilities, as well as fit with the team. Very thoughtful and clear communication about what they were seeking, which helped me to see where and how and I could best contribute. Opportunity to meet with multiple individuals on the team. By the time I reached the in-person interview - the final piece of the puzzle I needed to confirm was culture fit. The environment was warm (maybe a little quirky), inviting, professional (but not stodgy). The recruiter followed up with me at every stage to make sure I was aware of next steps and status. Overall, a wonderful interview experience. One of the best I've had.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What are the top three things you feel you are best at? Why? What words would you use to describe yourself?

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at CDW (Vernon Hills, IL) in May 2015

      Interview

HR phone screen for 30 minutes. HR phone interview with hiring manager for 30 minutes. Called to headquarters to interview with three members of the corporate communications team, including the hiring manager. One interviewer received a call from one of her kids and she moved to turn off the phone, but the hiring manager urged her to take it, saying, "Remember--family before work." It wasn't a display on my behalf, since the mom obviously felt badly that she hadn't turned off her phone. I don't have dependents anymore, but made a solid impression on me. In fact, the entire team made an great case for success through collaboration.
